RUF advice for my 81
Im looking to build a RUF pack for my 81 to hopefully improve the ride and obviously increase flex...
right now Im running bone stock suspension with the exception of 1" longer shackles front/rear and a drop hanger up front moved about .5" forward and already have high steer installed and it clears great...
I have 2 rear leaf packs both 4WD, first is out of an 85 4runner the second is out of an 83 short bed...
Im wanting to keep my truck as low as possible (stock looking) my original plan was to use the 85 rears since they already sit flater and then add my two bottom springs from my stock front pack to increase the load capacity but still keep a flat pack made of 4 leafs. will a 4 leaf pack work? I see most people run at least 5+ and a couple only run 3-4.
my truck is my DD it sees about 200-400 miles a week and plays on the week ends, so I want something that can handle holding up the truck on streets but still be able to perform on trails and get me back home at the end of the day.

ruf pack
If you can swing it run at least 6 leaves. You'll find that the already 30+ year old springs are prone to breakage. Your right on the 85 pack having less arch but something to consider is the spring bushings. The 1st gen pack has 18mm holes without sleeves in the front and rear and the 85 has smaller 14mm sleeved bushing on the front only so you'll have to do some rigging depending on your hanger hole size.

I already have the bushing pressed out of the 85 springs and sourced new bushing with 18mm bolt holes so thats not a prob... I guess I will see what I can build between the 2 packs...
is it bad to mix arched and flat leafs?

good score on the bushings... if you have part numbers they should go into the faq! As long as the more arched leaves are on bottom it will all settle together after a few miles. I just stacked 2 packs 1st gen on bottom and 2nd gen on top making each about 3" shorter than the next with no overload. I run a trail gear hanger and marlin 5.5 shackles and its a little larger than i'd like on 36's. Theres no reason you couldn't use the main from the 2nd gen pack and throw in some front leaves.

I think to start Im going to build a 5 leaf pack since my truck is only stock and then later when I add a winch/bumper then will add a 6th leaf to hold up the extra weight...
I already have my TG drop hanger installed .5" forward and I will also keep my 4.5" shackles then redrill my front spring perches to move the axle back about 1.375" to keep it only 1" forward from stock
1st 85 rear main leaf
2nd 85 rear mil wrap
3rd 81 rear 2nd leaf
4th 84 front 3rd leaf
5th 84 front 4th leaf
