obviously I made the sides longer than they needed to be but will get cut off "continuing the line" from the wheel well

looks ready for some zombies. I didn't have the right jacks to get the bumper at the exact height and level, so I put it on these blocks and lifted the front end of the rig up so it was in place. For the final weld up when tacking on the winch plate and other supports, I think I'm going to hang it from an overhead gantry with the now infamous red ratcheting straps so I can get the whole thing perfectly level and square to the vehicle (jacking up the front end threw off the angle).

almost 1/4" or 5-6ga oil fill drilling stem pipe @ 2 7/8" OD. going to make one heck of a bumper set. Got 8 sticks of 8' pre-cut pipe for around $50 (that'll do both the front and rear bumpers as well as some nerf bars

the front bumper actually looks decent in this shot, but it's toast.

guessing Smittybilt used .075" or 14 ga steel tubing for their bumpers. Looks cool, but not much protection

That's just not going to work. Swiss Cheese! but the trailer hitch and frame are solid, so I'll try to reuse those. Also, they made the bumper for the 4Runners and trucks the same for the mass markets. Obviously I don't need the license plate cutout, so it'll be just two full bars going coast to coast. Haven't decided if I want to wrap them around the rear like it does in the front or not

in contrast, the tubing I'll be using is rougly 1/4" o r around 5-6 gauge (.203-.220"). Much heavier duty oil pipe I got 8 sticks of 8' pipe (pre cut lengths) for about $50. Little rusty, but cleaned up just fine with a wire wheel.

The front bumper doesn't look bad in this picture, but trust me....it's shot.

quick look at what the bottom looked like finished up - you can see a few areas where I really pressed and squished the liquid nails into the mesh

center section of the pin cut out to allow me to pound the heck out of it with a punch slightly easier. When using a punch and hammer to get what little short sections of the pin are left out of it, be careful not to distort / bend the bracket out of shape too badly (vise helps a lot)
