well i went botu repalcing my fuel injectors today and found oil in my intake manifold. It is mostly all thorugh the intake manifold and a little in the throttle body. I am trying to figure out where it is coming. In my opinion i think it is coming form one of the vavle cover breathers thta go into the intake manifold. Is this possible? I have also notice a few peopel just have valve cover breather filter there instead of the tube. Anyone know about these?

My engine is a 22re rebuitl with about 4000 miles on it.

My other question is i need to take the lower portion of the intake manifold off to clean out all this black goo crap. Do i just need to drain all the coolant it doesnt seem to have anythign else i have to remove except for a few sensor plugs?

 

I would guess that its your PCV valve, replace it and do what you can to clean out your intake. Use pleanty of sensor safe throttle body cleaner.

 

well thst what i thoguht too but there is not really any oil residue in that line or in the pcv valve. I am thinking that it is the front breather tube that runs un-obstructed into the manifold.

the pcv valve is towrds the back of the cover the hose i am takign abotu is towards the front.

 

But after looking into it some more i am think that mabey htis is why people do the pvc catch can mod? Anyone have any info on what the front hose is and whether i cna just swap it out with a valve cover breather and not funnel it back to the intake?

yeah not sure about the catch can mod, but I know that sludge in the intake is common.

i think i will try the catch can mod on the pcv valve line but i am still wondering abotu the front line and wether or not i could just put a breather filter on it

 

I'm not experenced with the 22re but on some engines there can be problems with just putting a breather on because the poor venting can cause a sludge build-up in the engine. IIRC the mid 90's Camrys had a bad sludge problem from the factory. http://www.yotarepair.com/Sludge_Zone.html
