Filling Tranny + T-case: From the top?
Well, my new tranny is going in today(W56), but I'm curious: Can I fill the tranny and t-case from the top through the shifter holes? I figure I've got them off, and the interior pulled up anyways.
I guess the real reason I'm asking is because it's a bit of a pain in the butt to almost need to siphon fluid into it from the side.

I prefer to fill from the top, it goes so much faster and you don't spend any significant time cramped under the truck. I just pull the check/fill plug and fill until it starts to run out. Once it's done dribbling out of the hole, I know it's full to where it's supposed to be.

I got what is basically a big syringe from AutoZone for under $10 to do all my drivetain fluids, and I have used for other things since. You stick the tube down in the bottle, suck the fluid into the syringe, put the tube in the filler hole for the tranny, diff, etc, and then push the fluid out of the syringe. Works slick.

yep those suction pumps are worth every penny. Last time I changed trans fluid i used one of those cheap emergency gas siphon pumps, took me about 2 hours to change the 3 quarts including cleanup which was not fun. With the suction pump you should be able to put the fluid in in less than 20 minutes with no issues.
It can help to find a more flexible hose for it though to get into those tight spaces.
