i rebuilt my 22re and now i have oil in the radiator. not alot .eng hasnt lost hardly any if any. no water in oil pan and truck runs great. any ideas. or should i set the truck on fire

 

The water will go to the bottom of the pan, if I recall correctly and won't show up on the dipstick until it's already being pumped through the motor.

Oil will look milky after running it if you're starting to get water in it.


You need a HG. $700-$800 retail repair cost. Under $70-200 (depending on machine work) if you do it yourself.

Where are you? Often you can find someone to do it for less if they know the motor.

 

think it could be a cracked block? truck runs great. no miss, no blow back into the radiator.

 

That's possible, but the heads are more likely to fail.
Leakdown test might be helpful if you've got a cracked block.

Could the oil be leftover front your original rebuild?

 

Did you use a genuine Toyota head gasket when you rebuilt the motor? That may be your problem right there since most aftermarket head gaskets aren’t even worth the package they came in.

Did you have the head checked for absolute straightness and pressure checked for any cracks at the machine shop? In my opinion, the worst case scenario would be a warped or a cracked head. Not terribly expensive or as much work involved compared to replacing the motor or having it completely rebuilt again.

 

Is it ATF in your radiator? Is it automatic or manual tranny. On automatic trannys the cooler lines run through the radiator and if they leak inside the radiator, you will get ATF in your cooling system.

 

Your first paragraph I have to argue. Not as a personal attack....only because I see this statement so many times and I've recently learned differently. So far, I've talked with three different reputable auto services in my area (related to a job I'm currently doing) about using Toyota headgaskets. They're fine and all, but these services rarely ever used genuine OEM HG's and almost always aftermarket....namely Fel-Pro. They've never had an issues that were remarkable using them. I'm not saying the HG, in this case, was good or that it wasn't even installed correctly/incorrectly.....just that troubleshooting by brand is not a reliable way to accurately diagnose.

A leak down test or compression test would tell you a lot. If either test shows up fine, you could try flushing the coolant out and refilling.....see if the oil returns. I know it's a chore, but it's cheap....relatively.
