Replacing mids and ?'s about stock components (3rd gen)

Has anyone replaced just the mids (front door speakers) in their 3rd gen? Mine are completely toasted and my new alpine HU really exploits that fact. I am not a huge audiophile, I don't have a long commute and i'm not very interested in dumping alot of $$ into my system. So my questions are...
1. Has anyone just replaced/upgraded their stock mids, keeping the stock tweeters?
2. Are the stock "components" like aftermarket ones (do they have a crossover)?

3. I got my HU installed at Bestbuy and all I got back was my stock headunit (no amp). Does it stand to reason that they left my stock amp in the truck and just bypassed it?

Thanks in advance for your input. -James

I'll answer #3. They probably left in in there because it's mounted back there and not in the way. All they needed to do was unplug the wires from the bottom of it then plug the wires into the harness.

I went cheapie sony xplods from walmart. 3-ways with built in tweets. I left the stock tweets hooked up . Too much treble but whatever. I got used to it and now that the speakers are broke in they don't sound too bad. I want to put in a good set of component speakers but am spending too much on tires and other stuff to worry about my stereo.

There isnt a big crossover like highend speakers. More of just a little cap/coil on the tweeter to get rid of the lows. I think you could just replace the mids without any trouble at all.

I'm with Greg on this!! Just go and replace the Mids!! Just keep in mine a cheap set of Aftermarket Tweeters would not cost you much more!! And most likely they will come with there own "cross-over" Capacitor!!

I like good clean music so I would never go cheap on Speakers!! :rockband:
