3rd gen rear bumper build

my buddy scott is an awesome fabber, and is helping me build a rear bumper for my truck that is modeled after bruce's / charles' bumpers.

here is the progress so far.. it should be done tomorrow

you can see the bumper pad fits perfectly!

and the aftermath of a quick wheelin' run after we got tired of working on the bumper yesterday

That's awesome. As far as the debate goes on cost for one of these, could something be made like this for sub $500?

i got lucky. a buddy built a front bumper for his taco recently and bought a lot of steel that was scrap but was in big pieces. he didnt need one of the sheets of 3/16 (which is what we're cutting up), so he gave it to me (free!).

The main bar is 2 x 4, and was something my friend scott had. he also has more for support brackets for the side pieces and for the frame mounts.

so total cost has been cutting wheels and buying my buddy lunch and breakfast and stuff

id guess $100 or less.

What he means is, join a club, make lots of friends, and these things magically cost less, haha.

Bumper looks awesome, I love the crumpled chrome in the upper section of one of those pics.

I assume the rear bumper will be black, that means it is time to do something about that chrome grill.

So are you going to have Scott make your grill too?

What kind of drugs have you been giving Drew that he swapped lifts with you, swapped tires and rims, and now will swap grills too? I want to give them to Rich.

I thought you took his body lift and front setup and he took your PP springs front and rear?

Hmm...how can I convince Rich he wants stock birfs and a stock single case?

nice. use 1/4" plate for the frame brackets. you should also consider plating the frame with some 1/8" plate if you plan on a tire carrier at some point. also, use the attachment point on the bottom of the frame, but you should also drill and sleve two holes - one at the front by the end of the wing mounting point at the tire and one at the rear near the rear body mount - and put a large thru-bolt horizontally thru the vertical portions of the brackets and the frame.
