Help!!!!Please! PCV grommet ripped...
I was doing a check up on my '86 4rnr, pulled the PCV valve out, and the grommet ripped right around the collar. :pat: This is my only running vehicle at the moment and I have to get to work tomorrow....and the part store. If anyone knows a quick fix to hold the valve in and keep oil from spewing out I will post naked pics of my neighbor's wife.....kidding, of course. But, I would be very grateful.
Thanks
Thanks

Duct tape.
Thinking rip off a 4 or 5 inch hunk, roll it like a snake. Pull the PVC up out, wrap the snake around the base of the PCV. Then wrap tape around the snake. Making kind of a home made seal around the PCV, then seal in place with the tape. Put it in place and see if it holds.
So pull PCV, wrap a snake rolled chunk of tape just were it sit level with the cover, wrap tape around the snake to keep it in place. put the makshift seal and PCV back in place.

Thanks!!!! I will give it a go. If it doesn't work, you've atleast given me an idea. And just for kicks, I'll post the successful patch up...in case anyone else runs into such a silly predicament!

Moral of the story...sometimes you really get what you pay for. I'm going to visit NAPA for a new grommet!
Thanks for the input, all!

for future reference, always replace the grommet at the same time as the valve! they get really brittle over time, and personally i've never been able to get a valve out without wasting the grommet.

Thanks Kyle. But, I did. It's a standard practice for me. To me it's strange because I replaced both almost a year ago. I thought it would have lasted longer than that. And I only pulled the valve last night because the motor has been stumbling, so I just thought I'd check it real quick. Next time I'm going to have a spare grommet or two. At any rate, sound advice.

I put in a new grommet shortly before some engine treatment. I think the splatter of the chemical (Seafoam in this case) disintigrated my grommet.
