TruTrac w/ locked hubs in 2WD?

I am considering a Detroit TruTrac for the front IFS axle of my 4Runner.

I have a simple question:

Is it safe/OK to have a TruTrac in the front axle with manual hubs in the locked position while driving in 2WD? This would be to reatin in-cab shift on the fly for diving in winter conditions.

Can the TruTrac handle this, or do you need to be in 4WD if the hubs are locked?

Thanks!
Lamm

Is your ADD still op?, If yes then yes you can.
Or does the trutrac install dissable the ADD.

I have a locker in mine and the ADD sepperates the axels from eachother but the driveshaft will turn as long as the passenger side is locked.

Bump!

Anyone know, or know a good place to call and ask. The guy at detroit locker said "What's ADD" and I really don't want to speak to the goofs at NWOR.

Thanks!

It's no problem at all to drive in 2wd with the hubs locked and a TruTrac up front. You will feel a litle feedback in your steering wheel (it wants to go straight), but it's nothing I ever felt was objectionable. I have done this for years with no problems.

Great! My concern was that it was not mechanicly safe (as some catalogs let on).

You like yours Glenn?

Thanks!

I have an Aussie Locker in the front of my 4Runner. I run with the hubs locked when wheeling and 2WD 'till I need to use the 4WD. It's perfectly OK, I don't notice any steering issue untill I engage the 4x4. I've ADD.

locked hubs with trutracs

alert- newbie question

thanks for this posting Lamm- i have an additional question regarding locked manual hubs and front trutracs-
what actually happens to the differential when I switch from locked 2wd to locked 4wd? I know that with the warns locked and trutracs in the front that I will have fulltime front limited slip, but what will change when I engage into 4wd?

You actually apply torque to the differential. I believe it is input torque that causes the limited slip to do its thing. But I am not certain of this.

Lamm - with your lack of flex, I would seriously consider a locker up front. TruTrac can be aggravating as hell - won't "lock up" when you need it most, and the "brake biasing" trick is not as effective as you'd like. TruTrac in the rear with ARB in the front would be a sweet setup for those of us up here in the snow. (Of course, if youre gonna do that, you may as well put an ARB in the rear too...)

I love my ARB's. You know exactly what they're doing and have some degree of onboard air too...you could even run it off one of your Scott Airpak tanks with the regulator set to 90psi.
