New speakers for my 3rd gen

I did some searching and I found a lot of people went with Blaupunkt TSc660 components, well crutchfield doesn't have these anymore. What is the recommended route to go now? I don't want to spend too much, but would like 6.5 in the front and 5.25's in the rear.

Does the factory tweeter need to be replaced? Are components recommended up front?

I plan on buying a 4 channel amp and running them off that. Let me know what speakers you recommend. Thanks!

Those components are too expensive, should I just get a 2 way speaker for the front and then replace the tweeter too? Or do I need to replace the whole front with a component system to make the front sound better.

you have a sub so i guess theres really no need for components any good 2 or 3way speaker will work fine i would leave the factory tweeter where it is

imho

having a subwoofer wouldn't impact the decision about a 2-way speaker vs. components. If you're filtering the low frequencies out of your front speakers (and you should if you have a subwoofer), then your front speakers' job is to provide good mid-bass/midrange and highs. generally speaking, components do a better job of this than 2 or 3-way speakers, though there are exceptions to everything.

if you do go with a 2-way speaker (where the midrange cone and tweeter are integrated), I wouldn't use the tweeters mounted near the rear-view mirrors. In my opinion, it's an either/or situation. Too many sound sources. Just my opinion, though. try it, and see if you like it.

You still can get the components on Ebay for less than $75 a set.

Fronts:

Rears:

You will need to make the wood spacer/template for the rears to fit, but they will sound great with some amplification.

There are some nice component sets on Ebay for a good price. Just do a search on "pioneer components" "mtx components", etc. I would do 6.5 on the fronts and at least 5 1/4 on the rears....if I had it to do over again I would do a 6" on the rears because with the wood spacer you can do it.

i've had very good luck with Boston Accustics components. they sound awesome and they don't need to be amped, IMO. I know they are on the expensive side, but i've seen them go for fair prices on EBay. I would definately go for some 6.5's in the back. i did with a wood spacer and they sound great. i'm not sure you need to do components for the rear. I get good highs from the tweeters up front and never sit in the back so i saved some money by going regular 2-ways in the back to get some better components up front.

I had Boston speakers and tweeters in the front. Though the tweeter boxes (or whatever you call them) made my doors bow and they kept hitting the dash board. We finally cut the plastic boxes and taped the top back on. I don't know if that was such a great idea but they seem to work great still and sound the same.

I really wanted Alpine speakers to match the CD player but I guess the Bostons are really good speakers... I don't know what model they are since I bought it like that but I think they sound great.

my 2 cents:

components are the way to go. i put some CDT components in based on the recommendation of a few members on the forum. you can hear the highs and mids VERY well. i added a small 10" sub in a box + an old amp i had lying around and boy, i will never go back its a beginner's system no doubt, but the sound quality improvement was light years better than the stock system. the writeup is in the tech section: https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f127/installing-amp-component-speakers-subwoofer-3rd-gen-4runner-82608/
