5.0 Ho Swap Info

im planning on swaping out my 22re for a stock 5.0 ho from a 1989 linclon mark 7 lsc(i have the entire car(((factory 9 in with disks )))). but i have a few questions:

i have heard that the 87,88,89 5.0 ho's from the LSC have bigger heads, bigger fuel injector equaling a boost hp an tq over a standard HO. is this true??

i want to make it an auto and keep my yota tcase so my best options are(correct me if im wrong) aod if i want od, or a c4. when i source the trannys do they need to be a 4x4 model or will a 2wd model from a car work with the addapter from either advanced adapter or northwest offroad??

i have a sas planed first so the oil pan clearance should not be a issuse. i read a post on yt about somthing spiecal about the accesory brakets from a lsc, but i could not understand what was meant. can some one explain it alittle better.

their was a few more things but i cant remember what.

thanks for your info in advance

oh ya 1987 4runner w56 22re

the AOD and C4 are your best bets if you're dead set on the slushbox. i'd lean a bit more towards the C4 and run some taller gears, with a 302 you're not gonna exactly need 5.29s in a toyota

i'm no expert on ford heads but any HO should be set up pretty well with roller lifters, and some had forged pistons(certain year mustangs i think). i wouldn't be worried about not having enough power -- if that's the case, i'd be looking into some trick flow twisted wedge heads!

i was thinking towards the c4 also. as for gears id like to keep the 4.10s if i can

i agree with haveing plenty of power in high and low and in the mountain highways(thats what kill me now) i would like ot keep it as stock as posable. i plan on rebuilding it before it gets swaped and maby p&P the heads.

thank you

I wanted to do that with my '91, and did a lot of research. I was set on using the T5 5spd from a mustang and then use the advance adapters adapter go go from the borg warner T5 -> toy geardrive xfer case.

Most of what you are asking looks like Ford Tech more than yota.

Advanced Adaptors can get Toy cases behind most anything, but at that point why? D300, Atlas, Stak???

A lot of times when you use their engine mounts/ belhousing or tranny xfercase adapter combo you won't have to change driveshaft lengths etc.

Some people find the driveshafts a minor problem, it does make it a bit easier I guess. It makes the swap mostly bolt in.

Bolting in a 302?

Having shafts cut/redone is no worries. There are a lot bigger fish to fry in this project.

Good luck with this. I have seen a 302 in an 86 that still have IFS. It was NV4500 and Toy stuff down stream. Not exactly stock anymore.

The 302 engine mounts are bolting according to the advance adapters website, if your truck came with a v6 then they are weldin. They also have oil pans which will fit an 302 into an ifs toyota. It's not a cheap way of doing it, but it becomes fairly straight forward. The wiring on the 302 is quite easy imo. I studied the wiring diagrams at the time.
I also converted my old 4cyl carbd mustang to a fuel injected V8 in my younger years. Most of the wiring goes directly to the computer, just like the toyota engines do.

My friend is currently installing a 302 HO in his 85 4runner. With North West Offroad's engine mounts, it goes right in. You may need a body lift with your IFS.

AA no longer offers the adapter to install a T-5 to ToyTcase. It is listed on their site, but do not carry this any longer. He now has the bell housing adapter to fit his 302 to Toy transmission...

Wiring is simple. Check out project MoPower. He has some really nice wire diagrams. There are a few others. Jeep sites have some good wire diagrams as well.

I have no idea if the HO is the same from mustang to what you have. I am a Toyota guy helping out a guy that wants a Ford 5.0 HO. (Nice Engine btw.)

build your own mounts or go with nwor's mounts. aa's mounts are junk and a joke. they use stock ford mounts with a short piece of square 2x2 steel that can be picked up at most steel shops. good luck with your project do a search there should be a good thread with lots of info on here

Search. Their is a whole thread on this in which I have posted the Ford info. An HO motor is an HO motor, they are all the same except 92 and up have non-forged pistons and some other stuff is different.

Your best bet is to use a Ford drivetrain rather than a Toyota. Parts are easier and cheaper to get. Once you have the motor, trans and transfer case in, all that is next is the driveshafts and maybe cutting some of the floor. I thought of bolting a 302 to my R150 but if that trans breaks, it will cost some cha-ching for a rebuild. Using an NV4500 is your best rought. They put these transmissions in many different trucks and they are as strong as hell, stronger than any Toyota trans except the Getrag but that is a 2wd trans out of a TT Supra.

the T5 is a wimpy transmission -- in reality, a W56 is stronger. an R150 or R151 would live a pretty happy life behind a 302. unfortunately, nobody makes that adapter. the closest thing would be to get an NV3500 out of a jeep and adapt it to a toyota t-case.

T18 or np435 is great for wheeling but not for much else.it's a very slow shifting tranny but very strong exept for the np435 top cover. the tranny that i really want is a nv4500 but $400 plus however much a tcase adapters is making me stay with the t-18
