FJ daytime running lights

This is my first post, and is probably a stupid question, but are the daytime runnings able to be turned off in the FJ? My FJ is the first vehicle I've ever owned with daytime running lights, and I couldn't find anything about it in the manual. I prefer to turn on my headlights when I'm ready to turn them on. But I imagine this is a "safety" precaution for which the owner has no choice/control. Thanks for any info (and don't be too hard on this newbie!)

I surf a few FJC forums to gather info for my upcoming FJC, and I had copied this to a text document.

I found that if you disconnect the DRL resistor the DRLs turn off but head lights still function the same. LOOKING at the engine compartment on the right side just to the right of the headlamp and in front of the battery is the resistor. unplug it and the drls go off. It looks like a plug and a big heat-sink.
It is from Cruisermike over at ih8mud's FJC forum.

I wonder if you can install some type of switch inline with it so you can turn the function on again?
There may also be a DRL article in the Tech section here for Tacomas or the 3rd gen 4Runners.

Some of the info may apply to you too.

I know I do not want mine on all the time, and it would be nice to have a way to disable it on the fly.

The old school trick with most cars with day time runners is to pull the emergency break one click and they will be off. That is usually not enough to engage the E brake

Corey's quoted suggestion worked perfectly! I disconnected the plug behind the right headlight (and in front of the battery) as mentioned, and no more daytime running lights!! Thanks again!

P.S. The emergency brake suggestion offered by AUYota did not work. I even pulled the brake up a few clicks (but not while moving) and the daytime running lights stayed on. So, they must have wired against this work-around. Disconnecting the plug Corey mentioned is the best bet.
