Anyone change e-brake cable on 2nd gen??

As title said. Has anyone ever changed the ebrake cable on a 2nd gen? I'm in the process of replacing mine but can't figure out how to get the handle and shaft out of the cylinder. Is there a trick to this that I am not seeing?

Thanks.. I already looked over those but was still a bit confused. Took me a while but I got it though.
