on a 3vze there is a little sensor on the water distrubtion block on the back of the motor. 99% of the time when you pull the upper plenum off youll snap one of the little nipples on it and be left with this



so you dont have to toss it, its fixable.

first file the busted end smoooth



then aquire some 5/32 round AL tubeing.. i got mine at a local hobby shop




once you have a flat surface youll want to drill out the hole to 5/32. (sorry no pic) i used my drill press to have good depth control

mark off a length of tubeing, i used a dremmel with a cut off disk to cut it and de-bur and slightly chamfer the outside edge. I used a pocket knife to scrape out the flash on the inside (its very soft)



Tap the little piece into the hole (its a snug fit, just about right) I used some super thin CA AFTER i put the tube in the hole. a very small dab will do ya






Total repair cost... 65 cent for tubeing and a dab of CA (that you should have anyway)

 

THANK YOU!!! 79 cents was what it cost me for the tubing. Same exact brand you bought, only mine was 3/16 (they were out of 5/32) at Ace Hardware. My other option was to drive 80 miles (RT) to get the 5/32 for $1.00. Figured 1/32 of an inch was going to break me. Got a dremmel bit for my dremmel tool that was exactly 3/16 and worked it on a slow speed. Used a mini pipe cutter to cut the aluminum pipe, then another dremmel bit to bore out the inside of the ends, no barbs, etc.

Not sure what CA is or where to get it, so I went with J-B Quik Weld. Rated good up to 300 degrees (F) and hard as steel when it's done. Took a tiny bit with a finishing nail and ran a ring around the inside of the drilled out hole, then dipped the very end of the pipe into the mixture. Once snuggly in place, I built a little bead (wall) of weld around the base. Sets in 4 minutes, cures in 4 hours. Just checked it and I can't even dig my fingernail into it 2 hours later. Feels strong as ever, vacuum hose fits perfectly over the pipe.

Best 79 cents I ever spent (okay, $4.50 for the J-B Weld, but I have a full supply of that now, I only used a tiny bit, and $5.00 for the dremmel bit, but I use that tool all the time) Either way, better than the $50 Toyota wanted for another one.

 

CA = cyanoacrylate glue

ie super glue...

 

Snap-on I've done this same exact thing to two of these now, and have had no problems with either. Much better than going to the dealer and paying $65 for a new one.

 

That's what I thought, but wasn't sure Super Glue was strong enough

 

IMPORTANT NOTE:

One thing I learned when trying to put the TVV in was that I made the prongs a little too long. If they are too long they will bump into the Fuel Pressure Damper when you are trying to put it back in. Easy enough fix, just took the dremmel back out and shaved off 1/8 inch and it fits like a glove.

 

Late to the game, but I found that a vacumm fitting tee thats barbed, you can pick up at like napa, will snap into the hole just perfect, just plug one end up and put your vacumm line back on.

 

Really? Tried Schucks but couldn't find anything that would work. Guess I'll try NAPA if this ever breaks again. But the one I built is pretty stout!

 

Yup!!! Actually a buddy of mine that works at our local dealership told me that. Says when they break them (which is not uncommon at all) says they just put in one of them barbed plastic tee fittings.

My runner's got one on it, it litterally snaps into it like a button.

 

into the small little hole or did you drill it out?

 

into the small holes. The plastic barbe'd tee fitting is kind of tapered, a little bit. It just snaps right into the small hole, almost like it was made for just that.

You'll just need to get 2 things, the "T", the one I have is white plastic and its barbed, and a vacumm plug since it will also give you another vacumm port. Then just hook it up!

 

Here I was acting like a surgeon with my dremmel tool and a little pipe cutter, drilling out the hole, carefully placing the tubing in, JB Welding it back on, etc.

Could have just "snapped" it together. Oh well, either way I didn't spend $50 on a new valve.

 

I am trying to picture this in my head. Mine is currently broken as well. Has anyone else tried this that they would be able to give me the size of this "T" fitting? Also, why not just find a barbed a joiner (think of an "I" but horizontal) of the same size and shove that in there?

I have to think of a solution soon though...can't wait for the aggravation to begin of either uninstalling this and super gluing or snapping that fitting in.

 

Wow, I didn't see this thread until after I fixed mine. I ended up filing the plastic until it was flat, then cut off a nipple from an old vac switch and superglued it on. it looked like this when I was done:



It has held up fine so far, but I think I like the vac T idea better.

 

No pics, but I used the tips from one of those cheap, plastic ball point pens. On the TVV AND even a VSV for the a/c. Still holding. I just used epoxy and drilled slightly to make the tip fit.
