Oh, you got a reaction alright. But, the stuff wigs me out anymore. Reality, as it seems to me, takes on too many shifts for my already edgy mind.....lol! I'll tell you what, though. There was a time when I was rarely without it or under the influence. And, those times certainly had it's appeal. Besides....eating it was always better. Therefore.........

Very well then. Brownies it is!

But I gotta say, getting wigged out is what appeals to me about it. Actually, I talk a good buzz but don't really indulge much these days. No time to get wiggy with all the responsibilities of being an adult and all. I can still daydream about my younger, less responsible days though can't I?

Tvv valve-broken and confused

So i too have the busted tvv valve. i discovered the problem when i noticed the vacuum tube loose from the throttle regulator, but was surprised to see that it had TWO nipples, not just one. Okay, so i can fix the nipples, but my question is where is the 2nd nipple supposed to go to? i have no extra vacuum tubes that need a home, as far as i can find. should i just plug the second nipple?

I found the answer on a round about thread - The upper tube comes from the charcoal filter. bottom tube from the thermal air regulator.

Gotta say all the info around here has saved me a lot of money and taught me a lot. this is my 3rd major project thanks to yotatech community i wouldn't have tackled or couldn't have afforded otherwise. You guys have probably saved the runner from the junk yard. Thanks.

Does anyone know the diameter and threading of this little valve assembly? I'm planning on relocating it and would like to buy a pipe plug to fill the old hole.

Great thread !
Saved me a bunch of dough.

Here's my fix.
Napa was out of the suggested parts, I bought straight barbs cut one in half, a little filing on it, drill out the BVSV with a 5/16, super glued the barb in and put a little super grey RTV on top.

I liked the idea of using the aluminum 5/32 pipe. I wasn't able to manage to put a wrench on the sensor to remove it so I did it with the sensor in place. You can see remnants of the previous "repair" by the genius that broke it in the first place and their idea of fixing it was to pour some sort of glue on top of the busted nipples.

How in gods green earth do you get this out!!!? Without removing the whole damn engine. I've seen deep "slotted sockets" but they're 22mm and I believe this is 19mm on my 1993 3.slow.

* great post so far by the way!

Just don't do like I did. I found the correct socket and finally managed to get back there and get to it. The valve busted in half on me. I finally gave up and just ran a hose directly from the canister to the intake and bypassed the valve. Runs great!

Dear Toyota circa 1985-1997,

Don't make stupid F'ing parts that fail in inaccessible areas!!

Regards,
Disgruntled (scratched arm) guy.

I did finally remove the tvv sensor and broke off both vacuum nipples. After a bit of mcguyvering and a lot of JB weld, I reconstructed it. Getting it back on was another story. For the record it takes a 19mm deep slotted socket. Crows foot don't for, nor do sockets, wrenches etc. Ps, those are $150-300 at specialty online spots. NO TOOL STORE IN THE KNOWN UNIVERSE HAS IT! After a whole day searching, I gave up and went to harbor freight, bought a 10 piece metric set $6.99 and a corded grinder $11.99 and created my own. It's all hooked up now and fingers crossed, it resolves the CEL issue and rich idle.

Good job on fabricating your own slotted socket! That is now on my list of must have tools for my own 3.0L V-6.

I did this on my 93 about 9 years ago.. used the end of a ball point pen like thook, and its still holding fine.

ETA: I used a O2 sensor socket to remove mine...

You used an O2 sensor socket??? How? They're all 7/8"... I tried to shim one but it wouldn't work at all :-(

My issue now is that I've fixed this stupid part and my CEL is still on for an EGR fault (I dont know the code). In honesty I havent driven it much since the repair (maybe 2 miles) and I pulled the fuse to clear the code, but it remained on. I've totally spooked myself reading about the legendary (smirk) 3VZ-E burnt valves, shims, HG and more. I don't appear to have coolent or oil where it doesn't belong AND she runs great, but these forums are good at inspiring the DIY spirit and pure DREAD!! Lol. Good luck all.

thanks for all the info guys.
got to replace mine I think - it's been repaired obviously (see pic below).
Engine running a little rich and I have a vacuum leak that is persisting through a brake booster replacement and most vacuum hoses have been replaced. I am thinking (hoping) that'll save my problem. I bought a new one as I figured I may not be able to do a second repair job on mine. But I'm glad I stopped by this thread. I'll buy a 19 mm socket and modify it.
