Gear Lube - Diffs/Transmission

HOw often (either time or mileage or both) do you change your gear lube in your manual transmission and differentials? What brand of gear lube do you use?

I'm thinking of switching to Mobil 1 Gear lube 75w90 for my tranny and diffs.

Every 15K for the tranny and the diff. Will be using Amsoil for both soon.

According to my HAYNES manual (1-36), the transmition fluid change as well as the diff fluid intervals are 24 month or 30,000 miles. Why do you change at 15 other than it dosnt hurt to do it early?

this is for tacomas/runners/and t100's

Mobil 1 is fine for the diffs and transfer case but might be too slippery for your tranny. Try Redline MT 90 for your tranny, its a GL4 synthetic.

I had this problem in my 95 runner with amsoil, after 3K too slipery and woulnt shift. But that was a ADD rig. I now have a non-ADD 92 with a different tranny, I am going to try amsoil again, and if it doesnt work I will go 1/2 and 1/2 probally.

you're nuts!

i just did a change of fluids on my truck, i'll let the rear end go 50K before the next change. probably never will touch the tranny or t-case again.

So i'm getting the idea that no one has had leak problems with using synthetic gear oils in the diffs and trannies which answered one of my questions. Has anyone had any probs using the Amsoil synthetic ATF fluid in their auto trannies? I have an 86 4runner 4speed.

the leak problem is on old engines with seals that may have been kept from leaking since they were gummed up with crud. generally on most toyota engines this won't be the case, since they have 1 piece rear main seals, positive type valve stem seals, and most of the oil pan gaskets are nothing more than gasket goo.

on a transmission or axle, this just simply isn't a problem.
