Agree or Disagree - concrerning the 2007 FJ Cruiser

Agree, or Disagree?

If the 2007 4x4 FJ Cruiser, with optional A-trac system, 32" tires, Electronic Rear locking diff, & stock sliders, came with a solid front axle, it would be the most capable & versatile stock offroad vehicle Toyota has ever produced, period (at least on paper). When I say capable, I mean it would have you covered in most offroad situations. I realize some situations don't merit a sold front axle at all, but I'm talking about a general statement, like if you had to have one to cover 'em all, this would be the most capable ever produced, if it had a SFA.

Discuss....

The reason I put this in general discussion as opposed to the FJ cruiser forum is because I figured if I had a wide spectrum of participants, instead of those just interested in the FJ Cruiser topic/forum, I could get a wide variety of answers from those who maybe have more expiereince with other Toyota vehicles. So I'm just curious if you could move this back to the General forum?

Man... so much for not ripping into people - it's funny what goes and what gets deleted around here.

I say no... that later model cruisers (I believe the 80s, though not 100% on that), while bigger, were available with locking front and rear diffs. IMO, those were the most capable.

I would say depends how they did the solid axle ... step in height is a big factor for the general public who buy cars. If they kept it low enough for those people, I don't think it would make that much difference out of the box (the mod potential would be a lot higher though).

IFS/ATRAC/locker combo will take you more places than you want to go with a ~30k vehicle.

I'd say no. If We got Diesel Hi-Lux's like OZ and everywhere else (solid axle'd). and if they came dual Locked then that would win. 4 doors and a tray to put alot of crap in. As it stands, Rubicon Unlimited Wins hands down. 80's are sweet, but damn expensive and really BIG for an offroader. Although I am In love witht that guy's 80 with the Volvo portals... I LOVE THAT TRUCK!!!!!!!!

80's are about 5-12k around here, not too expensive . Go ahead and get your own 80 .

I'm also gonna say the 80 is the best, Solid axles with dual lockers, 275s stock with room for possibly even 285s, and I'll always like Inline motors over V configurations, especially when it comes to trucks. Not to mention, the FJ cruiser hasn't got a thing on the 80 when it comes to looks.

I just saw my first silver one at a dealer by my work.
A co-worker and I stopped by on the way back from a class I had to attend earlier today.

He about had to put my tounge back in for me.
We only had about 90 seconds to look at it as we had to get back, so I did not notice even if it had the rock rails on it.

It does sit up high, seems higher than my 4Runner.
And they are also seems to be room for 33" tires.
The stock 32" tires were the only bad looking thing on it.
They have to go for treadier meats.

No, but then neither does the FJC. It is an OEM option, around $500 IIRC. A robust set for the 80 is around $7-800, including cat convertor protection.
