Hello All, I have a 87 4runner with a 22re. Was getting a miss like a plug wire was bad. I replaced them, still have the miss. I started to check the timing and it is at 35 deg at 750rpm, with service connector jumped. I checked the T-chain and it is at the right place. Dist. is at the right place too. I'm thinking TPS, what do you fellas think? I would appreciate any help on this. I did get a code 11, (TPS). Thanks....Jackman

With the engine running, put the connector in place, you should hear the idle change, if not it's usually a sign that the TPS went belly up, but not always! ANother way to check the timing is to get the #1 cylinder a TDC, remove you dist. cap and your rotor button should point at the #1 cyl. or relatively close to it. If your chain is stretched your timing will be off and as far as a 22re is concerned it's usually noisy! Try to adj. your TPS, make sure that you are using feeler guages and a Multi-meter and the correct spec.
I don't know how bad your miss is, however these 22re's have something that's called a "lean Miss" pretty much common to hear a slight-moderate miss with these engines!

Hey, Found out the TPS was stuck. Replaced with another and did the adjustment. Timing went back to where it was supposed to be. Miss went away. Still might have to tweak the air flow meter, (it has been tampered with). Any suggesting on that?

 

Lube the hinge on the door. Make sure it swings smoothly.
