what kinda 31's you have on there, and how do they perform in the mud?

Yeah....I do go into water a lot, and on top of that, I have a new Jasper 3.0 b/c my last engine didnt like water a lot. So thats why I have the snorkel. You'll see that in some of my next pics.

 

The tires are actually just BFG Land Terrains. They look like All Terrains, but a little less agressive. They do pretty good in the mud, but if you are in slick mud, like clay, they clog pretty fast, but for thinner mud, they do perfectly fine.

 

Oh and thanks for the comments on the hood, I kinda modeled it after the Camel Trophy LR's. Plus, it keeps the glare off the hood from the roof lights.

 

If you are doing water deep enough to warrant the snorkel, have you sealed the engine electronics, and added breather extentions for the diffs, ect?

If not, your rig still isn't going to like deep water any better than the other engine did.

Nie snorkle, nice rig, but I am facinated by that rear bumper...How does that work? does it swing out? Did you make that?

ha ha..thanks, Yes it swings out...hinges are on the tire side. I did make it...for less than 150 bucks. If you look, its just a piece of 2.5 x 2.5 with an integrated hitch, the side plates are .250'' thick, 6" bu 30" cut to make it look good, the tire carrier is just 1" x 1" made into a frame, and then .250" plates in certain places for strength, like over and under the hitch. Its mounted by 2 more .250" plates that are welded to the factory hitch frame mounts, then I cut the orginal hitch off below those plates. Works like a charm for now, but will need some extra reinforcing for side pulls, ect. Oh and the side plates have a piece of 1" going from the front of them, through the body, to the frame, for support. Thanks...Alex

 

Been there, done that. It annoys me how low it is. That is the reason why I really dont go off-roading alot anymore until I get my lift in. Since you got 4.56's why not some 33's and a body lift?

Its an auto, so the 4.56 gears were made for 28" tires....And now I have 31"s, so Im already getting bad gas mileage b/c of that. the stock gearing for 31's was 4.88 gears, so the next step up for 33's is a 5.29 set. Plus, Im not a fan of body lifts, no offense to anyone. It will fit 33's without anything else on it, but my gas mileage went to less than 10 miles to the gallon, (corrected odom). It works pretty good for now, but Im soon getting some 16 inch wheels, and 32's...see how it goes from there.

 

So did the snorkel cause the MPG drop or was it the tires. My gas milages sucks big time too!

Actually, I think the snorkel helped the performance a little bit...it seems to run better...I remember before I had it on there, somedays it would run fine, other days it would run like crap. Now it always runs pretty good. And Im pretty sure its the tires that are hurting my gas mileage...Im only getting around 14 on the highway...pretty bad. I need to replace my plug wires for sure...there pretty coroded, so that may have something to do with it...also the O2 sensor may be bad.
Thanks for the compliment on the runner....if you dont mind me asking, what makes it unique to you...I like that it is, Im just wonder...?

 

Well, you have a one-off bumper and roof rack (as far as I know) and the paint on your hood is also unique (functional too)!

I like that your Runner actually sees dirt too!

youre right about the bumper....I made that, and the roof rack is a Surco with the sides and top frame cut off...(better gas mileage and performance on the highway, no joke). The paint has gotten a lot of comments...and it does work.

And yeah...my runner take a lickin and keeps on tickin. It has a lot of "pinstripes" and a few dents, but she runs super strong and will forever with that new engine and only 127k on the clock.

Mine has 4.10's with the V6 turning 31's with no problems. I didnt notice any mileage change. I still get 13 mpg I believe the 4.56 gears were for 31's with stick and 4.88's with auto. Somebody correct me if I'am wrong.
