How much oil do you go through?

So between oil changes, how much oil does it take to keep the dip-stick at full on your 3.0?

Right now, my '94 pickup is chugging it back at a rate of 1.5L per oil change. It's got about 215,000Km on it. Is this normal?

Sounds about the same as the 93 I had, 1.5 - 2L in between changes. Mine had 220,000km on it.

Now that I'm driving an 01 I don't use any

Not a drop, and that is twice now going around 8K or better with my Amsoil.

Even with my engine running on only 5 pistons, it still does not use a drop of oil.

I go through about .5 of a litre between oil changes around every 5000km. If I am doing a lot of heavy towing I will use about 1 litre. My motor has 386,000 kms on it

the camry is about .5 litre with the V6 and 378,000 kms on it

I don,t bother topping up , only go through .5 a litre/5000km or so, and thats with a leaky distributor. I use 5W30 toyota oil & filters . Its has 80,000kms (freeway miles) on a 2 year old dealer HG recall rebuild. (222,000kms on vehicle)

X2
Have 180K on my original 3.0 and run Amsoil series 2000 0W30 syn. I have run Amsoil since it was new (switched at 30K to allow the motor to break in) and change it once a year and works out to about 10K miles. Also have the dual remote bypass filter system.

All engines will burn some oil because it gets in places where it won't return to the oil pan, such as the valve guides and above the piston rings.

My 3.0 needs a quart between changes. It has 145K on the clock, and doesn't leak a drop, so it's getting burned somehow, most likely like Glenn said above.

Mine will usually get to between full and refill after about 3k miles.

Me too, about a quart per fillup.

"Fill up the oil, top off the gas!"

(that's what you get when you put a brand new head on top of an tired old block!!)
