Dilemma-- 4.3 or 22r-e (long)
heres my dilemma
the other day i bought a 91 4.3l v6 just rebuilt for 100 dollars with computer minus wiring(easy enough to get).
now i have been reading since on the 4.3l swap on here and on pirate.
i am capable of doing this as i am and automotive tech and under stand the systems on an engine.
now i want to keep the 5 speed in my truck and have found bellhousings to allow me to do this.
but i love the 22r-e i think its the best engine out there and so simple to work on and i have the memerized very well.
the truck is a 92 4runner with 35s and 4.10s has a cam and exhaust but stock manifold
should i do up the 22r-e and gear it with 5:29s and a locker
or put in the 4.3L and leave the gears and just add a locker
this is my daily driver and dont want to ruiin the truck.
i know the 4.3 will have more low end torque.
and i know the parts to convert it to a 4.3 are gonna be pricy thats why i suggested doing up the 22re.
thanks for the input in advance

I'd personally go with the 4.3. They're a good motor, lots of power, and you can find parts anywhere. Not as easy to work on as the 22RE, but sounds like maintenace isn't an issue for you.
Plus, from what I've heard(could be wrong), with the 4.3, you'd probably be getting simaler fuel mileage as the 22RE. Same economy, but with a butt load more power, sounds good to me.
But as with most things, follow where your wallet tells you you can go.

Hmmm let's see, put Shivy JUNK in your yota or re-gear and keep one of the most durable motor's ever... Well, I'm stumped...
Do the world a favor and avoid prolonging the life of worthless GM parts, let them find the boneyard like all their little brothers and sisters... they're gettin lonely
