New, full road test of 2007 FJ Cruiser

Published at Edmunds today, what they call a full test falls short of other tests posted elsewhere, but adds some new tidbits to further whet your FJ appetite.

"There's already talk of a "Moab" special-edition model that will feature the talents of Toyota's in-house tuner division, TRD. Beyond that there will be a full line of accessories covering everything from roof racks to rock rails to locking storage boxes and a removable Garmin "Quest 2" navigation unit. And that's just from Toyota. More than 60 aftermarket companies have already been given full access to preproduction FJ Cruisers, and you can bet they are all hard at work on their own lines of baubles and bolt-ons."

you left off the most important paragraph

"One thing's for sure, if Toyota only produces 46,000 in the first year and the price starts at less than $25,000, there will be more demand than supply, which will inevitably mean dealer markups and eBay auctions"

By design. I need to get my "Moab Edition" first. Then there's recent info that production was revised downward to 25,000, or a bit over one per dealer per month. The big money on one of these will be made exporting to Canada.

Another new review from Detroit News. Lots of paper comparisons to H3, and FJC comes out on top in most ways.

Sounding better all the time

I dunno, the interior kinda reminds me of something, can't quite place it...maybe this?

I hope to snag the Portland Auto Show FJ Cruiser for a few days. They probably won't let me take it off-road, but should be able to put on a few hundred miles around the Gorge and Mt. Hood area for laughs.

nice, but still don't think Id get one, not a big fan of the whole retro car thing. I wish they would make retro cars from the 90s, some of the finest autos, but the whole retro look always seemed like a comp out to me. Maybe I'm crazy but 90% of my decision is usally based on vehicle looks. The whole retro thing is like, we were too lazy to design something new, so we decided to design it after old stuff. Just wish car makers would move ahead in style, not 20 years back.

well this might be a remake of the FJ40 but it doesnt look like any car ive ever seen, so maybe automakers are moving forward a little bit in design.

I'll give it some serious thought (but I won't tell the wife that ). The one big drawback to me is the spare tire covering part of the rear window...

Have we heard if the back window will go down like the 4Runners? ...or did I miss it somewhere.

The rear window lifts up, and the whole tailgate opens to the drivers side.
