My new Downey Headers

Got home and there was a box on the front porch.

early xmas

got the crome version (keep the price down) What im confused about is i would have thought the 2 sides would be identical but reversed. but they arnt.

(ill take a pic or 2 tonight)

Now i have no excuse for not getting the motor finished and droped int the 4runner before the xmas trip to the familiy. (my self imposed deadline, that and i need my shop back)

This is the best coating you can get for your headers, IMHO.

Jet-Hot Coating

I see your 4Runnner is an auto. Keep us posted on any install problems you run into and what you had to do to correct it. I am going to put headers on mine but im a little worried about them not clearing everything because its an auto.

I found a place that sells the Ceramic coated for $355.38 and chrome for $279.95 If you guys want to know where let me know and I will post a link to page.

Ya im a bit worried about the auto part. Im thinking about getting rid of the rear transfercase cooler and combineing the hydrolic lines with the ones that go up to a new aftermarket (not in the radiator) cooler. So i still get cooling but dont have to worry about the space taken up by the rear cooler.

That and the directions mentioned something about linkage but i think that was just for dropping the auto trans which i havnt figgured out if im going to do yet...

Im thinking im going to go custom. Ill weld up the y-pipe from some bends i get at the muffler shop. once i have the idea of how to run it ill drop it off and have the rest of the exhaust put on. If it looks like its to much work i suppose ill break down and go with Downey y pipe.

But i got burnt on the NWOR one i bought for my nwor headers, I ended up cutting it up and spliceing it back together anyway because it hung WAY to low so i figure i could do it from scratch and save SOME money.

Go custom... I'm not a welder, but it's not THAT hard compared to the $$$ Downey wants.

And frankly, after seeing the collectors on my headers (Downey), I'm glad that my Y is custom. They're a big ragged...

Keep in mind, your NWOR headers are stainless, the downey's are not.

Before you have them coated, have a muffler shop weld some ball type unions on the end of those headers. Why Downey thinks slip joints are adequate is beyond me.

I bought my ceramic headers from them. The only suprise was $20 shipping to them and another $20 shipping to me. Still a great price and great service. I recommend them!

Sorry for the old thread bump. Did you like these. Did you end up putting ball joint collectors on. I have these same headers and I am installing them this weekend. I seem to be speaking a foreign language when I ask about ball joint collectors at the muffler shops. Anybody have any recomendations where to get these? I have read alot of leaking exhaust stories with slip on and gasket type connectors, and I am afraid of welding the joint dont want to break these high dollar headers.
