I am replacing the clutch on my son's 1993 SR5 4wd truck.I wanted a few opinions on what I should be replacing in the tranny while it's out?Does any body know of any components with a history of failure?

 

The synchros are known to give out, mine are getting to the point were i just about cant ignore it anymore, but mine has 212K on it.

Marlin sells a complete rebuild kit for it. Its pricey and not something the avg mechanic can take on.

 

Thank you, I would have help with the rebuild,do you know if Toyota is still having countershaft bearing problems?

 

Be sure to change the clutch, pressure plate, throw out bearing, and pilot bushing. Also have the flywheel surfaced by someone who knows how to do Toyota flywheels. They've got to have a little step cut into them around the edge for the pressure plate to mount properly and provide the correct clamping force. I used a heavier flywheel made by Centerforce on my 1995 V6 and I'm very happy with the improvement in torque.

Marlin sells a good clutch kit that has everything you need. I've been very happy with his standard clutch kit (I've not tried his ceramic kit).

 

The countershft bearing problem was common with the 4cyls but I havent' heard of it on the r150F
