Volkswagens's Turbo- and Supercharged Car

http://www.popsci.com/popsci/automot...cbccdrcrd.html

How about:

VW Golf GT
Engine ... 1.4 liter, 4 cyl.
Power ... 168 hp
Torque ... 177 lb. -ft
0-62 MPH ... 7.9 sec.
Top Speed ... 136 mph
MPG ... 30 (city); 48 (highway)

Dang....almost as much HP as my 3.4 but at half the size. and almost triple the gas mileage. Nice.

I don't think VW's quality is even close to the same league as Toyota's.

A Civic EX with a properly tuned turbo kit on the D16Z6 1.6L would return similar numbers. Granted it is a Civic, but at least the quality would be there.

Well, 36 MPG highway probably. 48 is dang impressive.

My point is if Toyota would use the same principle in our vehicles it would probably at least double the milage I would think. Or take the 2.7 and do the same thing. THAT would be impressive I bet. Maybe 220 HP with 30+ MPG?

I think the quality is there, but VW's require more upkeep than Jap cars. I miss my VW's. Between me and the wife, we've had about 4 or 5 of them since the 90''s. I've comtemplated whether to give up my 4Runner or not. I just can't get myself to go down that low to the ground again. Plus, it's not in the equation right now, especially with having a year old infant, 2 dogs, and 2 cats. I need the room.

i'd never, ever buy a VW with electronic controls. maybe an old bug or a bus or a squareback, but nothing past the 70s or early 80s...

I work for an auto parts store (5 years) and I estimate that 70 percent of the VW owners I talk to say they would never buy another VW, mainly because of the small but many problems they have.

But that does sound like a nice ride....IF they ever bring it to the states

I'll never buy another VW. Although the R32 would tempt me sorely if I had the $ and didn't feel like buying something faster/better handling (STi/Evo).

Volkswagen's were originally intended to be a reliable, affordable people's car (and pre 90's were)....now...it's just a piece of crap!

Great numbers...wrong car!
