99 4runner - Using factory fog wiring for aftermarket fogs

Title fairly much says it all... I'd like to install the PIAA 2190 fogs (http://www.piaa.com/Lamps/Lamp-pages/2100.html) on my 1999 4runner Limited. The lights are rated at 55watts. Does anyone know what the factory lights are rated?

Is the factory wiring adequate to run these lights??

Thanx

Factory fogs are same wattage, no worries.

Are you wanting to put these in the stock foglight mounting position? Let me know. I may have a few options to suggest. I can also get Piaa now.

Really?!?! That's great.

I'm looking at mounting them in the ARB bumper (see pic):

PM me what you can get those Piaa Super Star headlights & Piaa 2190 Fogs shipped to 97068. So if I understand correctly... I can just connect the 2190s to the factory wiring (ie not using the relay, switch, etc).

Thanx

Are these wires provided even if the stock fogs are not installed? My truck doesn't have the fogs and I would like to install a pair. How can I tell which wires are for the fogs?

Thanks.

I have a 99 limited that came with OEM fogs. When I installed my ARB with IPF fogs all I did was cut the plug and wire them directly to the factory wires and was able to use the switch on the light stalk.

Now I have an extra IPF wire loom to use for other lights. Ihave not had any issues in over a year.

I have a set of cheap 55w offroad lights wired into the stock harness, no problems for over a year.

I was thinking about adding some fogs in that same location. Let me know if you find something that fits well.

Jason, Those look good...and a decent price. I'll probably order them in the next few months. However the $60 price for the PIAA bulbs is a little steep. I used to run the 100Watt Silverstars in my stock fogs before the stock Hella's corroded away. Will these Silverstars work in the fogs you sell or is 100W too much? Thanks

Those are actually on sale. : )

Well, the debate will never be won between silverstars vs Piaa's. But I did a side-by-side comparo of both and will never change from the Piaa's. I put Piaa's one one side, in heads and fogs, and silverstars in the other, in heads and fogs. The Piaa's made the silverstars look like they were green. I just love the piaa white/blue tint and think they look much cleaner than any other bulb this side of HID's. There is a big difference between the two.

Thanks Jason. A couple other questions:
Will the 100watt Silverstars work in the fogs you have on your site? I didnt know if your bulb comparison was done with the stock Hella's or with the fogs you sell.

Do you get pretty good life out of the PIAA bulbs? I had to change out my Silverstars about once per year.

Are the PIAA's the standard 55 or so watt bulb or are they brighter like the 100watt "off-road use only" Silverstars? I want something as bright as possible without compromising the fog light unit. Thanks

Yes, but I'd stick with the 55 watt rated fogs. The piaa's are 55 watt, but say "perform like 110 watt". They are reated at 55, but just a brighter than most.

Life... Will probably be the same. No aftermarket bulb will last as long as a standard OEM bulb.

I think the piaa's are the "brightest" for their ratings.

Here is the before pic of the stock head lights:

Here are the PIAA Star White Headlights:

Here is my ARB Prado Bumper getting modified to fit the PIAA 2100 XT (55watt) fogs:

They fit nearly perfect (almost like it was made for them):

Those fogs are very bright... WOW. They make the head lights look dim:

I still have not "aimed" the fogs... but they certainly help as is. The headlights are a very noticeable difference... it's a very white light. The fogs are using the factory wiring, which made the install very easy!!! I'm very happy and love how the lights don't "stick out".

Thanx again to: http://www.burtmanindustries.com (Jason)

now find some expanded metal or some sort of chicken wire and make some stone guards for the rectangular hole. Cheap mod will save the expensive lights

Looks good. I am doing something similar with my wifes TJM
