Thief broke into my 90 4runner-broken passenger side glass

Some punk broke into my 1990 4runner last night.
He smashed the passenger side glass(the small one on the door). I don't have insurance to cover glass breakage. Can someone help me? It looks like an easy job of replacing the rubber seal and the glass. I don't know how to begin, nor how much it will cost to get a replacement piece of glass.

Luckily, the alarm scared the thief away, so the contents of my truck are ok.

Any help would be appreciated...I really want to keep my 90 on the road.

Thanks!

Frank

Sorry to hear about your runner. I had a similar breakin about a year ago. They also broke the driver side window, paid about $55.00, Toyota dealer. The smaller window should be less. Check vendor section, you might be able to get a good deal.

You could reuse your old rubber seal if you want. Try to take out the rubber seal out from the glass area. A razor blade or scraper will work great on it. The old rubber seal can be used, make sure you scrap all the old broken glass out of the seal. You best bet is to hit up your junk yards and see if you could find a used glass. Once you find the glass, put the rubber seal around the glass. Try to scrap the most you can of the old glue from the seal. If you can't get all of it, it's ok. Scrap the old glue also from the frame of your car. Try to get it as close to the metal as you can. Go buy 3M windo weld glue, comes in a big tube like caulk, and you have to use a caulking gun. Cut the tip, apply to frame area where the glass is going to be, try to do a continious beed. Position glass with rubber seal, apply some pressure, whola you got a new glass installed. If you do a continious big beed it should not leak. Beats paying 200 for someone to do it for you. I became a pro at fixing glass because my old Civic used to always get broken into.

someone broke into my 90 4runner

Thanks for the tips and concern! I'm lucky the alarm scared the punk away, otherwise the stereo and who knows whould be missing.

I'm going to scout around for used glass. It looks like the rubber seal is in great shape. There was a thread about removing the vertical cross member, but it may have been for a different toyota.

My 90 has been a good ride for me since 1994. I hope to get this figured out today.

thanks, but I ordered one from Toyota today. It cost $42. Just the glass.
I really appreciate your help. BTW, the dealer informed me the 90 4runner has another recall on a steering issue. They checked the vin and it complies with the recall.

At least they broke your window.

When my truck got broken into they stuck a screwdriver into the door skin and pried the lock out of the drivers door. They failed to get in, so they did the same to the passenger side. Utterly destroyed both doors and the locks.

All that for a visor oganiser full of burned CDs.
