I got around 1100 bucks of stuff stolen out of 4runner on sunday and i wanna know is it easy or hard to unlock a 4runner from the outside. From the look of the car, all the doors were unlocked and open. They didnt even bother to close the doors.

Anyway i just wanna know because I always lock my doors. I usually almost always lock my doors. I wanna know if the person either stole it by unlocking my 4runner or it was my fault for not locking it.

 

when i locked my keys in my Tacoma, it took the locksmith guy less than a minute to get it, if the thief knew what he was doing it would be easy for him to unlock it from the outside, unless you forgot to lock a door

 

I locked my keys in my 2nd Gen and the AAA guy told me that early 90's toyota trucks take longer to get into than any other truck. It took him about 5 minutes to get in.

 

Why don't you have an alarm?

 

I used to work for a rental car company and we didn't have spare keys for any vehicle. I was in charge of getting the keys out of locked cars. I could get into almost any vehicle in about 2 mins, some quicker. The hardest to get into are vehicles which have an extra metal guard inside the door near the window and manual locks.

 

well believe it or not , toyota is one of the worst companies about making different keys , they only do the required amount , im not sure on the numbers. also almost any vehicle can be broken into without much damage , and the more you try to make it harder the more often people complain when they lock them sleves out.
simple coat hanger under the door handle , and your in to most vehicles.

I've got an '87 that I've locked my keys in there more then once. And can get into there in less then a minute. It doesn't long or a whole lot of effort if they knew what they were doing.

 

I usually dont keep stuff in my car.

They got my paintball gun which i left after playing on saturday.

A digital camera I place to take pictures.

And the usual 2-3 PSP games i keep in my glove compartment.

So really if they tried to sell it, Id say no more then 600 bucks sincet he paintball gun is a 2000 model so it wont sell much, I got all the local and some distant paintball shops looking out for the gun to give me a call if it shows up.

i called some pawn shops.

And im filing a police repoert as soon as i get a call back from the voice message i left.


Anyone know if the police notify my inssurance as well. Its not worth to claim all the items So im not gonna contact insurance about it. The raise on the premium would kill me since im under 25.

 

The guy who stole my truck probably used a screw driver (I think) to mangle/deform the keyhole and I believe that is how he got into my truck as that was part of what was damaged when I got it back.

 

Toyota dealers can make new keys with just the VIN number (at least they did on my 96) and you dont even have to show them any proof of ownership.

 

I have a buddy that has some lockpicks and he likes trying our doors. He hasn't had a chance at the runner yet but I've watched him open another friends Jeep in less than 10 seconds. It's really kind of disturbing.

 

my buddy had his 2nd gen broken into through the little triangle window in the rear passenger door, they stole his two 12" subs.... Now since he rolled it the entire rear left window is out, so anyone could break into without even trying now......

A few months ago i locked my keys in mine while at work. A co-worker/friend has a "slim-jim" kit. It took him less than 1 minute to unlock my drivers side door. What i did'nt like was how easy it was. The tool he used was nothing more than a thin piece of metal that could be bought/made by just about anyone.

A few weeks later i locked the keys inside again but i had my both front windows cracked about 2" ....
while i was gone, my brother stuck a metal coat hanger through the opening and pressed the un/lock button on the arm rest.

So after knowing how easy it is to "break" inside without any actuall breaking, i decided to get an alarm which i'll be buying soon.

 

to someone who knows how to use a slimjim correctly breaking into anything is pretty easy......

 

ok guys lets just tell the world how to break into our trucks on a public forum. yes most ppl that want to know do know but do we really need to tell um about the keys from toyota ect? just my $0.02

 

all of this is common knowledge, even the idiot car theives already know about this... sorry, but the car theives arent being edified because of what they read here on yotatech

 

Exactly. Just about everybody and there mom knows this info and thiefs definately know it. If somebody wants to get in they will.

 

I was helping a girl pick her 3rd gen 4runner with a slim jim and i couldnt get the damn thing, o corse the was my first time but i just sent it down next to the door handle and tried to hoo kthe lock. Didnt work for me. anyone tell me how to do it correctly?

 

Seems as easy as a brick through the window just like any other car....

didn't the late 80's early 90's trucks get broken into w/ a #2 pencil, it was on david horwitz consumer program or somthing. also, ask to try your buddies key in your truck, works about 50% of the time when the key is slightly worn.
