broken window

My 90 4runner was broken into a few nights ago. The thief broke the vent window on the passenger side. Luckily, my alarm works and the punk took off. Lucky for him too. I would have loved to pump a few rounds into the bum.
Now, I have to deal with the broken window. Trying to find a cheap replacement...

good luck./

i think i read somewhere on this forum at one time that for those years there were only 4 different key designs made. I locked my keys in my truck last winter at work, took another guys toyota keys for a 92 and unlocked my doors.

My Toyota key will unlock and start at least 4 friends trucks. Funny thing is, theirs wont unlock/start mine!

Well any recommedations on car alarms, seems ill get a discount on insurance with a car alarm.

i decided already its not worth the cost to claim the items from insurance but i would like to be able to know that if someone tries again, ill hear it.

you should report any toyota dealership that does this to toyota customer care, this is so against dealership rules with corp toyota its not even funny! a good(reputable dealer) will have you call toyota customer care if you are not registered under that vin in their system, then no matter what they should still ask to see your id before giving you replacment keys. i just went through this the the mr2, even though the guy was next to me as i called toyota customer care and registered the mr2s vin with them, and it came up in his computer afterwards, he still wanted to see my id. thats the only way it should work per toyota. seriously report dealers that do not do that, it helps us all in the end.

Donno if anyone has tried this:

With my old 1st gen 4runner, I could litereally stick in a similar width/length key (like my house key I did this). Open the door, and start the engine w/o any hangups.

In fact I used my buddies Jeep key for an entire day when I lost my keys.

Cant do it with my 3rd gen tho!

I can pick the door locks on my in about 3 minutes, but my ignition is the real joke. I can pick it in less than a minute usually.

I have a '91 Runner and locked my keys in it. With no experience with slim jims, I MADE one out of some metal banding and was in in about 5 minutes, tops.

My father told me a long time a go, "a lock is a device that is designed to keep and honest man honest. They have yet to design a lock that will stop a determined man"

It is sad but true.

Mine is rigged. If you don't turn the ignition on and off 3 times within 5 sec after opening the door. Then ever is a very big KaBOOMMM and alot of little body parts everywhere!
