How can you tell just by looking at the back of it? Or do all SR5 models say "4x4" on the back if they are?

Thumbs down

Looks exactly like mine...
except mine is 4X4...Limited...and 2001...
Come to think of it, it looks nothing like mine
But seriously, I show up at work FRI and low & behold, some joker went out and bought the identical machine as me EXCEPT mine is 4X4 hehehehe
So what do you do when you spend months looking for the right vehicle, finally purchase it, and some ya-hoo goes out and buys the same vehicle?!?! I mean, to the average "joe", it is the same vehicle. Should I key it??

J/K about the key thing...

not if you take it off.
took everything off my truck. the only way you can tell that its a toyota is by the grill, and that is all blacked out. well, i guess you have to be pretty stupid if you think it's a ford. its not stuck in a ditch somewhere.

so that thing could be a 4x4. but probably not.

I guess it is nice, if you like campers. I can't really see it for the 4Runner being in the way...

Yeah the rear bumper guard is Jaos at least. You can make it out in the bigger picture....smooth.

the front looks like it's a Jaos as well.

I bought my truck from Longo as well. I still think they're a pretty lousy dealership in terms of customer service. We've bought 3 vehicles from them and they gave me a crazy runaround for the rear suspension TSB and STILL didn't do it. Thankfully, I finally got it done (at Southcoast Toyota in Costa Mesa) under the recall as my rear coils had settled like an inch an a half. How could they say that my truck didn't have a problem when it had visible sag (on a 3rd gen)?!

2nd gen should get a coil TSB  just because I have 150k miles doesn't mean I shouldn't get free springs because mine have sagged an inch or two in 14 years...oh..I guess that's why they don't have a tsb for that well I'll beat them....I'll RAISE it an inch or two muahhahahahahah

Not all of them. mine doesn't. i didn't take it off either. In fact I took it back to the stealer back in 98 to have them put one on for free since I thought it got left off. it turned out they don't all get them. you have to actually look inside for the shifter or look underneath for the front drive shaft. you could also just take a pic from the front at ground level and look for the cv's.

I think that they added the 4WD badge in 1999 when they changed the Licence plate holder and moved the "4Runner" badge to the left side of the vehicle, instead of the center.

that's what I figured too. I could order one, I would need the black pearl to match the rest of the car, for about $25 or $30. I was kind of surprised because mine didn't come with a "V6" emblem or a "4WD" emblem. I started thinking that they just left them off when I ordered my 4runner and made them change the chromies to black pearl before I accepted delivery.
