Anyone ever have the little 1/4" u-shaped coolant hose go bad in the back of the intake? Well I couldn't find it anywhere aftermarket for a direct application and I didnt want to go to the dealer and have to wait for it. So I went to Advance Auto Parts and matched one up myself. The hose I used you had to cut it down a little. The part number was: A71359 Dayco hose. Just thought this may help some of you in a bind!

It took 6 years for a reply!!! Amazing! This little intake hose gets dry rotted and cracks causing leaks. I will find a picture so people know what I'm talking about. I'm glad I helped you.

Please don't hate me for reviving this thread guys, I just want to say I appreciate all the information on the forum. I just bought a 3.0 1991 4Runner, and I'm feeling pretty crappy about the condition right now. This is one of the problems, leaking weird little hose. I'll get around to this, after I install a new starter.

I replaced that hose a couple of years ago on my 95 4runner. The parts guy at toyota couldn't find it either. Just so happened a mechanic walked by and knew what I was talking about. It is listed in a different section. I can't remember which one.

 

If it crosses your mind, please let me know

 

I'll check and see if I still have my receipt with part number when I get home. I'm thinking it was on the screen with the intake manifold if I'm not mistaken.

Yep. That's not the bypass hose I thought up were talking about. Sorry, can't help on that one.

 

Scope 103, I believe you may correct. If I remember correctly it was connected to that "Cooler Assy, Oil " gizmo. I will double check when I get home. It had a pin hole leak spraying coolant on to the exhaust pipe and steaming.

I'm generally pretty good with cars, but I don't have experience with oil coolers. The hose in question, although for the oil cooler, would still be carrying coolant and not oil, correct?

 

That's not the bypass hose I thought you were talking about. Sorry cant help on that one.

 

The one in the pic is the oil cooler coolant hose, I think the one we are talking about is between the firewall and intake plenum, little upside down U going from coolant bypass to the little coolant manifold block back there.

Pain in the ass to get to, unless you move the plenum out of the way.

 

OK, great, thanks for the confirmation. After seeing the oil coolant assembly I was pretty sure that's my hose.

Step 1, check. Step 2, find replacement

 

I gave you a link to one online source; $10.40 if I'm picking the correct hose.

Your time and gas are worth something.

 

Of course, and I am great ful for your find! I am hoping to find it at an auto parts store nearby, I need to address this problem tonight so I can get it out of my apartment's parking lot and over to my parents house where all my tools are for the multiple items of maintenance and improvement.

But, I think I will be able to make the 21 mile trip with the small pinhole leak anyway. So, I'll order online if I don't find it for comparable price tonight.

I'm going to attempt to change the starter tonight....

 

So, I fixed it... For now. I had to get the 4Runner from my house to my parents, where I have a garage I can work in (all my tools and stuff too)

I barely made it to a nearby pepboys, had to stop a few times in 3 miles to add water since it was leaking very badly (so much for pinhole leak). Of course I knew pepboys didn't have this hose, I thought I'd for sure be able to mickey mouse something to last me a few more miles. Here it is after I removed the old hose. The little bushing fastened to the block needs to change too.

This is my fix. Took me an hour to tighten the hose clamps! (this is before I tightened them)

At the end, the fix felt very good and the regular hose seems like it will hold with the metal guide keeping it in somewhat of a round-like shape. I may keep this for a while, mostly because I do not want to undue those hose clamps. lol.

Oil cooler is in a separate parts section as are the heating hoses.

And yes, that hose is a bitch. I was able to get the factory squeeze clamp on the upper, but for the lower I had to use a screwed on hose clamp. That upper post is removable and replaceable I think. For non oil cooled engines it's a plug I think...
