Like the title says, has anyone ever put an in-bed spare tire carrier (like from RJR) made for an open bed pickup or J-thing into the cargo area of a 1st gen 4Runner? Are the rear seats still usable? I have a 5th full size spare (32) & 10" rim, and can't fit it under the truck any more (custom exhaust), and don't really want to go the rear carrier route.

 

I think i have seen one where it mounts to the roll bar but a tire that size i am not sure about but i think something could be fabbed up.

 

my friend monuted his tire inside the bed of his pickup... he cut a snall hole in the floor of his bed and flipped the chain unit upside down....

 

I made one that that clamps to my roll bar using four 2" muffler clamps. The tire sits behind the rear passenger seat. I made it out of 2x2 tubing, it is L shaped and has a plate with 2 lugs welded to the short end. I have a 31" tire in the back and it doesn't obstruct the rear view. I have wheeled it pretty hard and it has been solid, I lost a little space in back but it seems like a good tradeoff. (sorry no pics)

Not sure if your still on here or still subscribed, but do you have any photos of what you described above? Or anyone else that keeps their spare in the rear?
I want to put it to the side behind the driver so I can still see out the rear but can't fit my esky and camping box in as well so gotta work something out. Would build a shelf over it and have it flat but then there's no way to strap the wheel down.
