i know that there are probably 3000 post about this, but i figured that i'd better add another. i am looking for the easiest and possibly cheapest way to level out my rig. my 1995 4runner has a lot of sag. i'm sick of it and am finally gonna break down and fix it. any suggestions will help.

I have order and put these springs on 4 runners over here in Japan. They are really great springs......

 

what about getting some coil spacers? that would be cheaper, and should get rid of the problem if the sag isnt super huge...

 

OH Jim.......

The coil spacer will cure the sag but you do not get the loading cap back with them...went with some spacers on my first runner over here, one med size ice chest with beer and the sag was right back as if I had not done a thing to correct the sag. the root cause of the problem is the weak coils Toyota put in them to begin with.....and once that rear start to drop it keeps right on going. Almost all the second gen over here that the Japanese drive have this problem and they do not seem to care enough to fix it. replacing the coil springs has proven for me to be the best way to go.

 

I just used cheap rubber spacers that go in between the coils, seems to add about 1'' of lift in the rear, plus anoter 1'' from the stiffer shocks. SO, 2'' in lift all together seems to make the sag dissappear alittle. I got the coil spacers at my local auto parts store.

 

I suggest the use of AllPro Offroads (www.allprooffroad.com) 2.5 aluminum coil spring spacers in combination with a decent pair of shocks (one's for lifted or raised applications) to eliminate the sag.
I've also seen "air shocks" put to use for that purpose with good results, which may actually be cheaper than all else with better utility.

 

Downey HD coil spring replacement is the way I went. One of the best mods for the dollar that I have done. As mentioned, adding a spacer will reduce the sag if the bed is unloaded, but toss a few pounds into the back and you get the droop again. Fix the problem , IMO.

Yeah, I've considered the "coils" as well, it's just that all of my experiences with them have been that they excessively stiffen the ride unless you keep it loaded with something which, for me, detracts from ride comfort and mileage as well.

Cheap, easy and good way, I think. 2" is enough to level your 4Runner, I promise.

 

the balloons and plow seems like a great idea plus it will add some extra income in the winter. i just don't know if the 3.0 has to power to pull the added weight of the balloons and plow though. but seriously i may check the parts store for some spacers until i get around to getting some new coils and shocks. thanks for the input

 

I have a used pair of Downey HD coils I'll sell you (removed them when I put on my Land Cruiser Coils). With the Downeys you don't need a spacer and since you have removed the original springs your sagging issue is solved. Shipping from PA to WV shouldn't be too bad. PM me if you're interested.
