anyone here have a dual battery set up? im thinkin of getting another battery to help spread the load my lights and other aux items that i may get. any advice?

Good question. I was inspired by 4crawlers set-up since I have the rear tire carrier I was thinking eventually a second battery could go under there.

 

Gotta go Optima. You can mount them in any orientation (laying on their side for example, plus you don't have th off-gassing problems of regular batteries. I am planning to add one in the future, probably mounted somewhere out of harms way under the 4R. The only other question is how will you wire it up? Will you use an isolator, or wire in parallel (through a large relay). I have both of these and will shoot pics if anyone is interested.

 

i put a yellow top as my second batt. I'm using it for lights, a heater in my shell and some power inverters. I went with a constant duty solinoid (SP) from an RV shop($28), a 30amp switch inside the cab($4) at radia shack, 20 of 4ga wire from home depo ($14) I covered the wire w/ new split fuel line and installed the whole thing. the second batt only charges if I want and will not drain the other batt unless i leave the switch on.
next I will add a relay so the switch will only have power if the key is in (not on) One more step to protect me from myself .

 

I have two batteries, they are connected in parallel for extra cranking amps. But Bundubasher, has fitted one optima battery and changed his setup to a split charge.
