swapping in tacoma rear axle to pickup

is it possible to swap a rear end and axle from a 96 and newer tacoma into my 1995 pickup ext cab with the 3.0L...im interested in maybe finding one with the factory installed TRD electric locker and using that...anyone else tried this out...or know of another electric locker option for my truck...because all i can find is the extremely pricey air lockers from ARB... i want a locker but cant drive with a normal locker right? someone give me some direction on this locker issure b/c i have no experience on what works well, how, cost, or need, etc... thanks for the help ya'll....

For the trouble why not just go with a limited slip or something like that. The general rule for hardcore swaps or setups like that is, if you have to ask how much it costs, maybe you don't need it. I don't know how much it would be but if you dont want limited slips, then for what you might would pay for an axle swap why not also consider an ARB air locker?

taco rear is 60" wide, 86-95 rear is 58", if you wanted it to look right you would have to get different offset wheel for either axle, or wheel spacers in the front, I'm not sure if the spring pads would line up either, good luck

You can swap the third members but the housing on the 95 axle will have to be modified to accept the taco third. there are a lot of people who have done this. It does require cutting a notch in the housing, a little welding and a little threadwork. With the Taco axle you may have to move the spring perches and other stuff, I'm not really sure

Just get the 3rd and modify your housing.

There is nothing wrong with the axle you have. Get an ARB air locker installed. This is a selectable locker and is either "on" or "off". You won't have any issues on the road, in the snow, or in the rain like you would with a mechanical locker.
