98 4runner Limited 4WD for $8000?

I have been searching the web the past few days for a good site on 4runner and finally I have found a home for my soon to be 98 4runner.

What do you guys think of this:

98 4runner Limited 4WD 90,000 miles for $8000

*big dent on rear right bumper (can be replaced)
*back door could not be opened (hopefully this could be fixed)
*need timing belt
*engine runs smooth
*interior and exterior condition - good

Great price! Umm anything wrong with it?? Is it from a private seller, and what area are you in? V6?

yeah, that is a great deal. i would start finding out where the local junkyards are for parts to fix it up. if you arent handy, just get the parts and take a shop. timiing belt change shouldnt be too bad either, plenty of stuff here on the forum on how to do it. I would suggest changing all the belts and the water pump while u are at it, since u are going to be tearing into it anyway.

also, do a carfax on it and make sure it wasnt in any accidents and didnt have a salvage title!

8k is such a great price, i would be a little careful about it. btw, 5700 is what i got for my 97, but its only sr5 and had almost 110k on it.

my dads 01 runner which is now temporarily my daily driver just hit 88,888 miles

it was totaled and is new from the firewall up and has a decent ding in the front bumper and craked bumper plastic and a little paint corosion on the back drivers side window..not rust jsut some chipping

anyways he paid about $6700 i think

Thank you all for your inputs. To answer some of the questions:

It's a V6 and from a private owner. I did a carfax on it and it came up clean, one owner.

The only thing I'm curious on the report is that there are two years missing on the Mileage Consistency Check. See below:

Date: Mileage:
02/27/1998 15
09/17/2001 52,900
05/02/2002 62,283
09/27/2003 82,004
02/01/2005 89,504

What could account for this?

the back door is an easy fix, if you can get it open to access the "guts" and find the little clip that the linkage has popped off of...

But then wouldn't it show up in carfax as two owners then?

Thanks BAMA, I'll check it out this Sunday when I pick up the car. Can't wait.
So many things I have plans for this car already.

The 97 that I am selling right now doesn't show up either, and it was a lease for its first 3 years. Only other thought is that it was in storage or something.

Thanks. I can live with that. If the engine had been rebuilt, would it show up under carfax? I'm sure I'm gonna have a lot more questions when I bring the car home.

No, major mechanical work will not show up unless it is accident related, and even then Carfax is not foolproof. Carfax is a good indicator of fraudulent behavior or activity, but it does not catch everything.

I would not worry too much about missing data in the first couple years. It would scare me more to have something noteable from the middle to tail-end of the mileage range.

Ok, the car is in my driveway awaiting registration and license plate before it could be driven.

I was trying to open the back door but doesn't seem the latch is turning. I pull hard on the knob but it's not budging. Any suggestions to get this open would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
