Hooking up winch, what am I doing wrong?
I'm selling the winch, and I'm giving it a dry test to make sure it works before it goes. I've hooked it up, but it's not doing anything. What am I doing wrong?
Here is the battery connections:

Here is the winch:
Here is the negative wire, squeezed in between the frame and the bumper attachment point:
I turn on the truck, and hit the switch, but nothing happens. Let me know
thanks!

I think that is the problem that I'm not grounding that wire properly. Where do I hook that one into?
Gangus-- I can try moving the + off the copper terminal but I think that part is fine, b/c the rest of the truck is hooked up to the other end of that copper piece and it still turns on.

I checked those .. they have the ruber connectors over them, and are good, I pulled the rubber back and its tight.

Either way its the same. The frame is basically a huge wire connected to the - side of the battery. They say ground tot he frame for convenience, but if possible, you should send it right to the battery..

The frame is not always exactly the best ground, since the ground must return to the batter, the frame has rubber connections, lots of rust, paint, and too many resistance factors. It's best to ground something either to the battery or engine block.

Warn mandates the winch be hooked directly to the battery in it directions. So i simply hook everything up to me brand new yellow top battery and used the side posts to hook up nothing but the winch. Its a nice set up I will take a pic of it and show you guys....

Yes, best to hook direct to the battery, power and ground. However, if you have an Optima RedTop, best not to hook the winch to the side posts, they are not rated to handle with winching current for a long period of time. I've heard of folks doing so and blowing the internal side post connection in the battery. Use the side posts for aux. loads, but keep the starter and winch connected to the beefier top posts.

Yes, Yellow Top is fine, that is why I specifically mentioned the RedTop:
See note #7: http://www.humvee.net/hid/parts/partslst.html
Not sure if this is still the case or not. The problem is/was related to the red tops having a small gauge conductor running from the top post to the side post. In the yellow and blue tops, there is a heavy cast metal conductor between the two posts, so both are equally rated for high current loads.
