Hi all,
I have a 2001 Tacoma 2wd 2.4L xtra cab.
I was hoping to replace the exhaust header and pipe up to the cat with a LC Engineering SS E-pipes.
My Tacoma turns out to be a CAL truck with two cats.
Can I get rid of one of the cats?
Will it still pass emmissions?
Should I slide the front cat back? (This will require quite a few mods )
Can I replace the two cats with one high performance that will still pass emmissions?

I asked a similar question several months back regarding elimination of one of the cats. From most of what i've read the cats arent quite that restrictive as some presume to be high flows already, however i could be wrong. If you want the lc headers measure from the exit flange to the mating pipe that goes to it. I once had a 98 4runner with the 2.7L which is basically a glorified 2.4, and i needed a high flow cat for the headers to bolt on properly. If your still confused call LC engineering and by the way i HATE california emmision rules!

yes, I hate CAL emmissions too. :cry: I do not live in CAL, but they sell their stuff here. Thanks for the advise. I'll try to fit a custom piece between the header and the second cat. Hopefully this will not set off my O2 sensors. If they still go off I will try replacing the original cat with a LC engineering cat and move it closer to the first O2.
BTW nice mods on the 4runner.

YES, it is possible to take both cats off and replace them with one high performance cat. YES, the truck will still run normal (but with more HP - due to new EXH header) os2 sensors do not light up. If you want more info write here.... too bad this forum was no help though.
