(This is also posted in the general tech section, in case you are feeling a sense of deja-vu).

Okay, It looks as though Tundra coils WILL NOT fit on a 97 Tacoma (therefore 95.5-97 I imagine). I put together the exact setup outlined by bamachem (not blaming him by the way) as far as TRD Tundra Coils, his spacers, and in this case, OME N91S shocks. As far as I can tell, the stud spacing is wider by about 1/8" of an inch on the Tundra Coils. Additionally the top-plate is noticeably wider (as are the spacers) then the one on my stock coils (Tokico's).

NOW, if I'm mistaken, or there's some trick to making them fit that I haven't discovered, then please let me know.

I know folks with new tacomas run this successfully, so just those of us with the first few years are out of luck.

Needless to say, watch the classifieds for the above suspension setup.

are you trying to use the tundra top plate, because like you said the bolt holes are in a bigger pattern, did you try to use the taco top plate on the tundra springs?

 

I had that epihany (sp?) when I woke this morning (other things on my ind over the weekend. I think I migyht go get the spring compressor again and give it a try, butt that doesn't solve my spacer problem. Of course I suppose there's the slight (unlikely I'm sure) chance that I got a bad set of spacers, but I'm not sure how to find out. I suppose I'll start by checking in with bamachem.

I have a set of his spacers sitting at my house and i will measure them when i get home this afternoon to tell you the hole distance. I have a 97 runner and the set up fits on mine and im going to run two spacers.

thanks, but I'll save you the trouble...

the outside diameter should be 4.875 +/- 0.005

the inside diameter should be 2.875 +/- 0.005

Any tips on shoving everything back in once its all assembled?

I'm letting the bolts for the sway bar steep in pb blaster over night.

 

Upside down jack on the upper a-arm and the biggest hammer you can find j/k. everything should go in fine.

Tried that, seemed as though the upper arm was hitting the coil and I still couldn't get it to line up at the bottom. Gonna wait for Andy to send my second set of spacers, then try again.

 

Did you disconnect the 4 bolts that connect the lower balljoint?

 

that's what i told him. disconnect the lower ball joint, connect the bottom shock eye, then use a jack to push the arm back up to reconnect the ball joint...

 

are you SURE that you need a second set??? if not, you can send them back and i'll refund your $$. they're on their way already...

you'll probally be at 3" or MORE w/ a second set on an early taco...

 

Bighead, yep thats what he told me. I might just have to give it a try today (the upside to unemployment).

Andy, I figure that I should just keep them on hand; I might not need them right away, but It seems pretty likely that I'll gain weight in the front in the relatively near future. In the back I'm gonna wind up at 2.75" (before I load up) and I want to be able to keep things fairly level. If one spacer puts me at 2.5" in front than I'll stay with that for the time being.

No back the real challenge-the rear leaves, talk about massive seizure.

 

They're on, and I have created the need for some discos (since I imagine they are just as cheap as the stock sway-bar connectors).

do a search for OEM lift kit.

 

i found one at toytecfor a bit over $300, i'm having a hard time finding tacoma's that have done this, most are 4runners.

are you still in the "stan"?

 

As far as the front lift goes, it is the same for Taco's and 4Runners, the difference is the rear lift, a taco would need an AAL or something similar
