Problem with the family truckster!!!

Sorry guys I know this is a mainly truck and suv site, but I know a few of you own some camrys so heres the problem. I have a 98 camry 4cyl, and its making like a rattling/vibrating noise from the engine compartment, been checking it out for the last few days its not from the engine itself, but more like the water pump or alt. Just wondering if any of you guys have ran into this problem with yours. Thanks guys

Throw this into the off topic forum and you may get more hits.

Motor mount is my guess...just replaced them on my mom's camry that had a rattle problem that I could hear (I think it was coming from the windshield/hood area), took it away as soon as I replaced that one near the area that you described.

But it could be a number of things: ie., accessory is not properly bolted down, pulley issues, accessory itself is faulty, etc...

You might want to look up on recalls/tsb's for the camry that might remedy the problem.

1. Is the rattle "timed?" (Or is it sporadic?)

2. Does the rattle increase/decrease with engine speed?

3. Does the rattle increase/decrease with additional load placed on the components you are suspecting? (Turn the AC on full blast to test AC compressor wheel, then turn everything on you can find to place a load on the ALT)
