Performance Airfilters, Worthwhile ?

Performance Airfilters, Worthwhile ?
I have a 2003 4Runner. I just saw that TRD is now making air filters for the 4th Gen.
Are performance air filters worth the cost ? Are TRD air filters worth a damn ? Better than the OEM filter ?
Thanks in advance.

I've always been told that Amsoil is a good filter. I have not had the chance to buy one yet but was considering this or the TRD one. But if you decide to get one....definately do the Deck Plate Mod.

I can't comment on the TRD filter.
And, like JGage said... do the deckplate mod! I'd also recommend the ISR mod (Intake Silencer Removal).
They're both inexpensive to do, and yoou will _definitely_ feel the difference under your foot.

dlotoy4runner, said to do the deck mod.. Not me.
I checked it out... But, until someone can tell me how to do it on a 4th gen... I'm not messing with it.
Amsoil doesn't make a 4th gen filter, yet.

I bought a K&N for my 3.0 today and i swear I think my acceleration is different. It seems slightly smoother and my exaust is a bit louder. Hey DLOTOY, Ive got a TRD filter for a 3.4 with 4000miles on it. If you or anyone else wants it il let it go for 20 bucks and 5 bucks shipping anywhere in the cont. US.

I quickly looked in the mods section. The 4th gen is different, it doesn't have the elbow that was talked about. It looks as though the air intake is to the passenger side, not rear.
The ISR mod is very tempting...
I'll go with the Amsoil since that is what has been recommended.

I found a place that carries Amsoil products in Albuquerque.
$34.18 with tax for the TS-115.
Is anyone in Arizona or New Mexico or any other exremely dusty environment using the Amsoil Air filter???
If so does it seem to filter all the dust out as well as the OEM paper filter??

I have the deckplate mod, I.S.R. mod and the Amsoil filter and haven't had any problems. The deckplate and amsoil were on for several months before I did the I.S.R. and the inside of my air tube was nice and clean, as was the throttle body, when I tore into it to remove the silencers. They seal amazingly well against the air box...
I think there is only one dealer in Alb, American Synthetics? He's a really nice guy if its the same one.

JGage:
I haven't done any mod's to the filter including the deck plate mod but if you have the v8 shouldn't the filter be the same as the tundra/lc/seq one? just wondering... check out the bay and compare to see if the filter location/size is the same. if it is then you should be able to use the same one. let us know if u find anything out.
I have the v8 as well but i won't be doing this mod anytime soon. i'm trying to do the suspension stuff first.... the power from the v8 is more than enough for me right now
if you have the v6 then that's a whole diff story

Other than a dremel, you could find the appropriate sized hole saw and make really quick work of it. I thought cutting the hole and cleaning up the mess was the most time consuming part of the whole project, aside from letting the silicone dry...

I went out at lunch and got my Amsoil filter.
I'll put it through the "Philly Process" (place it between layers of paper towels and stand on it to get out the excess oil) when I get home tonight.
