Cleaning the engine after she gets dirty

So, I've never had to really clean the engine except for wipe downs and such. My Runner is pretty dirty, do I just cover the distributor and hose her down?

Here is a pic from my first muddin trip at Carnegie Park in CA.

I can't outside link pics, so here's a hard link of her.

Here's a pic of my AWD pavement pounder.

you will hear alot of different views on this but it depends on what you are using to spray with and where you spray. When i do it i dont do anything just watch where i spray and i have never had a problem. You can do a search and there are some threads about this.

like your audi
like your saying too, not in the military but it is cool.

I've hosed mine off many times and it's never hurt anything. I don't cover the distributor or the fuse box, I just don't hit them with lots of water/pressure.

I usually start it when I'm done and let it dry itself a bit.

Spray it with degreaser before you get it wet and hose away. If you are useing a regualr nozle there really isn't much harm you can do. If you use a high power sprayer like at a car wash, be more carfulll in avoiding the wires and such. Once it is dry, I like to use Armorall wipes to finish it off and make everything really shine. I have found they work great on everything from plastic to paint on the fender wells.

Thanks! She perfoms EXCELLENT in the snow! This is my first week with the Runner, so I'll get to see how she does in the next week or two when I head up to Tahoe.

My Own Thread jack: Have any of you ever been hassled for chains when heading up to Tahoe in the Runner? I don't use/require them in the Audi.

Lil info on the Audi.
2.7L twin turbo V6
has done the 1/4 in 13.2 and have left many a V8 at the line...must be all the super crazy weight savings from the uber cool Carbon Fiber hood! HAHAHA. riiight.
