Hey all--

From what I gather, amber lights are supposed to be better than the clear lights for fog/snow -- anyone have any experience with the two?

Also--I've also read that foglights are best mounted UNDER the bumper--but I'd rather put two ON the bumper like a lot of you do -- are they still effective as fog/snow lights when used with low-beams?

I like those Hella Rallye 4000's and even the FF1000's, but not sure if they'd be good for my application placed on the bumper -- and I don't see that they come in amber -- I'm looking for a round lamp vs. a rectangular one....

Any advice?

 

Well, the lower the beam the better for fog/snow. If they come from the same point as the head lights, they can't be much better. In some cases could be worse. Though they will have a better light pattern and will be aiming low and to the outside. Idealy you would mount driving lights there (or on the roof) and then fogs under the bumper. But either way, you will end up with twice the light in front of you and they look great to boot!

 

There was a recent topic (~ 1 monthh or less) on 4X4wire about clear vs. amber. If I recall, the amber provides a bit more contrast but other than that, I don't believe there is a lot of difference with today's technology. I have white fogs and they're decent, but there is a replacement H3 bulb in the lower (yellow) temperature range that I'm planning on trying sometime.

Fogs do need to be mounted as low as possible to prevent the reflected light (glare) that you get with headlights.

 

 

good 'ol Jason always has the best solution... forgot about that option... You can get the performance products lower valance with holes for hella fogs. they also of course sell the Hellas that fit right in. You can then paint the valance to match the paint of the car so you get cleaner look than stock!
