power antenna lead and remote lead for sub wont play nice!!
ok guys. so i got a new alpine cause my old deck stopped working kinda (no back speakers, no power antenna, no subs)
so i got it all hooked up except the remote lead for my amp. everything works dandy! but then i turn everything off and connect the remote lead from the deck to my remote lead from my amp. turn the car and stereo on and the antenna goes up like 4" and then goes back down! WTF?
so i thougth maybe i had the power antenna lead and the remote lead switched, so i tried it the other way. same thing happens.
on my old deck i had both the remote lead and the antenna lead going to the antenna lead because we had the same problem with it. but the owners manual for the new deck expicitly say not to do that.
can anybody shed any light on this situation for me?

You can always just go out and buy a stiff antenna and not have to worry about things (but I would get the moter looked at first - I know mine had gone bad a long time ago).
Completely off topic - but what year Land Cruiser coils do you have in your truck? And do you know if 97's will fit a 2nd Gen. (and did you have to grind and skids or modify anythnig to fit them?)

soldered the wires. with heat shrink around them of course. the remote for the amp isn't hooked up at all right now. but even when i play cd's i noticed that the back speakers don't work. ???? the antenna works perfectly fine with out the remote lead to the amp isn't hooked up. so nothing is actually wrong with the antenna/motor its gotta be something with the wiring.
but i thought all leads, be it amps or antenna's are all 12v.
there's two remote leads, one for the antenna and one for the amp.
i think i might just break down and go get it installed professionally :pat:
as for the FJ80 coils, if i remember correctly they're from a '96 and if my memory serves me correctly again, '97 was the last year of the FJ80's, so they will fit. didn't have to grind anything. the drive shaft did hit the gas skid a little bit once under extreme articulation, but that caused it to kinda fix itself.
Maybe the new remote turn on lead cannot handle the current draw to trigger both the antenna and amp. Use the remote lead to trigger a relay, then use the higher current to trigger both.

Before you go ahead and take it to a "professional" I would look over all of your wires and make sure nothing is crimped incorrectly or anything.
Also, on alpines you can turn off the power to various speakers, make sure you did not do this. They have the feature so that if you run an amp to the speakers that the head unit does not still send out power.
Take a look at your manual and it will tell you about turning on and off power to the speakers - that is my best guess at the moment (I did the same thing when I installed my subs, didn't realize I had to "turn them on" in the menu on the head unit).
Hope this helps, and thanks for the info about the coils.

Your rears are amped back at the speakers. And the way you currently have it hooked up, it's being activated by the power antenna lead. When you listen to the cd player the power antenna isn't activated thus no amplified rear speakers.
Either correct your wiring at the harness or rewire the rear speakers bypassing the rear amp.
Search for more info.
