Engine Oil for 3.4 v6

How many quarts are everyone puttin in their 3.4 4x4 tacoma engine WITH oil filter change. Mine takes a little over 5.5 quarts. What does everyone else use? also it says on the fill cap SAE - 5w-30 oil....but i use 10w-30 oil...is this ok? I live in south CA so it dosent see much freezing weather... thanks!

p.s i use castrol non synthetic gtx oil at 148k miles the engine dosent drip a drop or consume anything noticably...

5.5 qts, 5-30 here. I think you could safely go down to 5-30.

I use about 5.5 quarts with a filter change.

I doubt 10w30 will harm your engine, but 5w30 would be optimal. Might give you a slight boost in fuel economy too.

I was stating that I always change the oil filter with a Toyota oil filter every oil change. Some people go 10K on the same oil filter...i wouldnt!

Anyone else use 10w-30 in Cali?

I put in 6 quarts, after the filter has filled up, the oil level is just below the full mark.

I use 5W-30 in mine because that is what the manual says is preferred and will work for all climates. 10W-30 is recommended for temps above 0 degrees.

I use 0w-20 oil. It's recommended for toyota's. And I have a 99 tacoma 3.4L engine. And mine holds 6 qts.

Unless you can prove up your statement about Toyota's revised oil recommendation for the 5VZ-FE to 0W-20 with an factual official Toyota document, we will use the document linked below to disprove your statement with the following: "ILSAC GF–4 SAE 0W–20: This oil has even better fuel efficiency and cold starting performance than 5W–20. Initial application for 0W–20 is in the 2006 model year 2AZ–FE engine and will be used in new engines to be developed."

Again, a 10 year old thread bump by a misinformed soul. I think the important thing is just change your oil every now and then
