Steering noises

Hi
I have a 91 'runner, and when I do a full lock turn....like as in all the way cranked.......I get a nasty clunk/grinding sound. My friend said it was that the power steering doesn't turn that far.....but that doesn't make much sense.
Has anyone else had this problem?
Any help would be appreciated.
p.s. this is just in normal 2wd mode, and seems to have nothing to do with what kind of surface I am on.

Sounds like the famous 2nd gen steering stop problem. If you search here you'll find a lot of people with the same problem. Basically the steering stops have plastic caps on the ends and when they wear out you get metal on metal, sounds bad but doesn't do any damage. You can replace the plastic caps but they just wear out again.
Most people just grease the ends of the stops. Look on the inside of the front wheels you'll see them, 2 on each side, one in front and one behind. Try greasing them and the noise should go away.
If you live in a rain forest like I do they require almost monthly applications of grease. On the other hand you can really freak people out in parking lots by making that noise on purpose. They look at your truck like it's about to blow up
