My custom cargo box

I was inspired by 40's pickup truck beds for the metal and wood top. My g/f thinks it's inspired by Chriscraft boats. I see alot of that too.

I owe alot of the inspiration to the Land Cruiser guys I know. They are awesome.
If you want to build your own, visit realcruiser.com for good start and some great tips.

There's still stuff to do to finish but it's gettin' there.

that looks great!! are you concerned at all that if/when you fold the rear seats down, there won't be a flat spot for sleeping? the box looks beautiful though - seriously, i am incredibly impressed.

James, that looks really nice. When you have a chance can you post some dimensions and what materials you used.

Is the box the same height as the wheel well?

I would make it so. I find hauling plywood with the double deck cargo platform up much easier. Anyways, just a thought.

Nice box. I might borrow the design for set of drawers I want to build for my closet.

Here are pics of my camper cargo box. I designed a drawer-in-drawer so I can cook without taking anything out. It extends past the tailgate so no worries

I have since put metal corners on here to protect from the rough ends

My CO2 mount is held down with knobs- quick and easy to remove with your fingers

Nice.
Is the drawer divided only in the front section and full dept in the rear?

George,
Yes that's right. The front area is still tall enough for normal cans to stand upright (like canned soups, etc) so it's actually very roomy; more room than I thought when I made it!
The rear is deep enough to hold propane, pots&pans, etc. I could even put my CO2 in there if I wanted.

The stove drawer holds the stove (of course), a couple propane cans, some misc stuff. All in all plenty of room.

It was great in the morning I just rolled out and slid open the back. Kicked on the stove, made some coffee and enjoyed the sunrise. Slide it all back in 1 minute and ready to roll!

That's an awesome design!!!
I bet if you started building those for sale you'd have buyers forming a line.

Peter,
A friend of mine wanted to do just that. He liked it alot too.

The problem is like anything- you make something a bit unique, do all the legwork, find the market and build up the infrastructure... then it gets knocked off by the next hack looking to take your market and undercutting your price.

Does anyone care about "the original" or innovators? I don't know... anyway, maybe.
he's invested in a restaurant and maybe after that he will try the cargo box. It would go through alot of changes tho.

anyway, it's good for the general internet modding community right? Add something like George or Bob to help out a fellow Toy owner.

That's a good point...

Your drawer within drawer design is innovative and obviously well thought out. I'd hate to see someone else take credit for your design

Can't wait to make it out on a run with you guys and see that thing in person

Oh I was just talking about business in general- if you go into business to make them that's what would happen.

I am like George or Bob, if my mod helps a fellow YT'er enjoy their truck-I think that's kinda cool.

Looking good! Its almost worth having our own "cargo box" section on yotatech, since there a few of us now that have done this. Mine ended up a little on the heavy side- any idea how much your unit weighs? (huh huh, huh-huh, I said unit)

MC,
It weighs about 75lbs. I wanted it to be strong in the advent I put anything heavy on top the last thing I wanted on a trip is for it to collapse! I think it's a fine weight- the back of my truck doesn't sink down at all with it fully loaded so it seems a-ok.
I do have more ideas on how to make it better but I'll save it for another day when I'm motivated enough. It is a really cool project, I think everyone should make their own version of a cargo box! That's a good idea to lump them all together, have a set YT library so-to-speak.
