My E-brake is not on, but the light comes on now and then.. does anyone know whats the reason for this happening? any help would be much appreciated.

 

Check your brake level fluid, thats usually the cause.

 

the light on my truck comes on once and awhile, the lever doest always hit the pinswitch and turn it off even if it is off

 

this could be the case, my brake fluid level is fine

 

This happens to me once in a while, and it always seems to be when I am gonig uphill. I just push the ebrake in a little and it goes away, so my problem is a switch more than likely.

 

This one is so simple you'll be slapping your forehead with palm of hand...
Adjust the switch. Look under the dash, (or in the console if you're that type) find the switch, and adjust it just a teenie bit. There is nothing about the e-brake that has anything to do with brake fluid. It's cables to the rear drums, no hydraulics involved.

 

Yes, but I think that light is also wired up to a sensor for low brake fluid. I was getting that light coming on every so often when heading down hill. Turned out my fluid level was just low enough so that the sensor would trip when I was at an angle. Added fluid to the mark, and the problem immediately went away. Several other people have experience the same thing. I'm not saying it couldn't be the switch, but don't rule out the fluid.

 

Ahh, yes that makes sense - could be. Usually the park brake light and brake warning light are distinctly separate, so you would actually Notice when it's telling you to check your brakes. In fact I thought it was a DOT requirement, but haven't needed to look that one up lately.
