Mercedes 4x4 (!) lights

Hi
I was wondering if anyone knew what type of lights Merc is using in their M series, you know: those supposed 4x4s? They have an incredibly bright blue light (even on dipped). Does anyone know if you can get them for 4Runners?

They are the same ones Audi, BMW, etc. use.
They are called HID (High Intensity Discharge) Lights.
Most of then use Xenon gas. They have a seperate ballast and
are quite expensive. I have them on my Audi TT and ther're
incredible. They really shine  when its dark and stormy.
They just seem to penetrate better and they have a distinctive line where the lighting ends which is incredibly white. I beleive its law as well that they have some sort of auto-leveling device to prevent blinding on coming traffic. My Audi has a leveling sensor on the rear suspension. Do a web search on HID or Xenon and you'll find everything you'd ever want to know.

Yeah you can get some HID's for your Runner but the kit is about 600 bucks, it's not a cheap mod at all, but it is one I wish I could do on my baby.

I've got to take this HID thread opportunity to rant a little as I've been blinded multiple times over the last few evenings by Mercedes, Bimmers, Porsche's, Acura's and Audi's (among other vehicles w/HID kits...I.E. they obviously aren't standard on a 92 - 95 Civic which I saw too) , in and outside the city.

Yup HID's. They are definitely bright & great for the driver but I would personally like to see them banned. Obviously I look away when they are heading in my direction, but that means I steer my eyes to the bottom right of the road. I don't like the fact that I have to do that. It's like someone shining a flashlight in your eyes.

I, of all people, encourage bright, clean headlights and visibility but not at the expense of pissing off and blinding oncoming traffic. Just my opinion, but I think they are simply too bright and should not be used unless off-roading at night.

Hboss I agree. They are sweet lights but I don't like driving at night anytime and getting blinded doesn't help matters at all!

Yeh, I've got too agree with you, even the dipped version of the HID is a little too bright and to go full beam (on the road) with those is 'lil beggars is a crime, but I'd still like a "choked back" version on my runner. Lights are a bone of contention as none of us like blinding or getting blinded but good, nay great, lights are essential for night driving unlit country roads - especially with all the cyclists one now gets in the UK. I've nothing against cyclists but in the old days we used to be very safety aware - lights, reflector strips etc, but nowadays some of these guys seem to be taking the p*ss...they don't value there, or any body elses, lives!
