I JUST bought it and love it to death, only paid 1000 bucks too !! its in pretty good shape and i want to fix it up in every way, The paints pretty much shot, and the interiors pretty good, But i was wondering how to get that darn removable shell back to white, and the pieces of (what i think are metal) black metal around the side windows of the shell repainted. Another question, Im gonna buy it a new engine, any suggestions (such as first upgrades). carpet kits ?, and lastly i have a safari rack on it but its rather old and tired looking harly any rust but most of the paint is pretty shotty, ANY ideas on what paint i should repaint it with ? like Rustolium, Im having a friend sandblast it for me so its gonna be bare metal. Thanks all !
(I also have a 91 4 runner !!! hehe cant just have one )

black trim pieces
to get them off you need to remove the windows (whole assembly) or buy the pieces and drill from the inside of the top where the screws are and unscrew them (pain in the a$$) i did it because the ones on my 87 were rusted out. the window assembly is actualy glued inplace (what i thought was the most stupid thing toyota ever did)

upgrades
Hey if you replace the engine go with the 22RE. That way you won't be stalling in all those crazy off-camber positions you'll be getting into. Plus I think the 22RE is a more efficient engine.
I've also read about a gel-type paint you can get for the removable tops but it was black. Looked sharp though!
Have fun with it!

window assembly
the whole assmbly is glued inplace so if you want to remove the piece you take the whole window assembly out or drill from the inside of the top. but like i said get the pieces from toyota first so you will know where to drill.
